Well, yes and no.

Modern lubricants lasts a lot longer then the old, non-syntetic stuff.

I sort of look at this like cars - regardless of miles driven per year I make sure to get the fluids changed at least once a year. If Rolex tells me 5 years I figure that the cost per year (service cost divided by five) hardly adds up to what I spend on gasoline, gadgets and what not.

But like insurance, this is, for me, something I do to reduce possible stress factors from items I own. I really dislike when my possesions cause me greif.
