Right on the money. I guess there's some who dislike just about anything. Ugly Ferraris. Pffft.

Seriously? What kind of response do you think you'll get when you come on a Rolex enthusiast forum and make such a comment. There's nothing cheap looking about this watch.

Personally it looks a little busy for my liking, but none the less it definitely does not look cheap!

The Daytona is not for everyone, nothing bad about that. I happen to love the watch, but I know people that hate it.

Doesn't look cheap, but the common man when looking at it doesn't even know its a Rolex, I guess they think Rolex's all look gaudy!!

I'm waiting for someone to take a Daytona and put some very heavy eye makeup in the shape of eyes over the dials at "3" and "9," and then put some very thick red lipstick in the shape of lips on the dial at "6," and then take a picture of it for us.
That's a silly idea, I know, but I can't think of any other way that anyone could ever argue that they had made a Daytona look "cheap." |

No I don't think so. The writing on the bezel has a purpose. I like the Daytona but prefer the Speedmaster.

The Daytona is such an iconic design, that it is constantly copied. I see dozens of Daytona-esque designs in the showcases at Macy's and Bloomingdales, all with sub $500 price tags. I think because the look of the dial is almost ubiquitous, that it is therefore associated cheap...at least in the rare instance of OP and to those who don't know Rolex

Golden ones are ok, dials are great. I just can't get over that cheap steel bezel. |

I m with you , yes ifrom distance it doesn t look like 10k+ watch ,some seikos are similar at first sight impression ,today s trend the oversized timepieces with exotic or hight tech materials achieve better the"very high value"item message to the customer .exactly for these reasons the company has updated their models-sub dd dj2-recently ,however we hardcore fans of the brand might love the previous versions better including the six digit reference D too.

Correct George but some might not buy the Daytona for its looks but for the movement - one of the best auto chrono movements ever made. You won't find one in a Seiko.
And I am not a Seiko basher - I have the best Seiko ever made + monsters and divers and kinetics.

Even though I'm not a big fan of the S/S Daytona, I still think it's a classy watch.
So no, I don't see it as being "cheap'' or tacky (if that's what the OP meant). The Leopard Daytona on the other hand... |

The original black bezel pump pusher Daytona's are one of my all time favourites. However I do not like the current design. The thick ring on the sundials, the screw in pushers, the shiny bezel, the polished links.....is it a dress watch or a tool watch? It looks too busy for my liking, but I don't think it looks cheap.
