More iconic certainly goes to the Day-Date. Gotta love the Jumbo though.

while i love the RO, the DD will never go out of style. both the RO and the PP nautilus go in and out of fashion because they're much more trendy. that being said, i'd love to see a 39mm RO on my wrist right now...

For dress - DD is iconic.
For sports/dress - RO is iconic.

Very strange looking watch the Royal Oak. Can't get my head round the design.

I would say the DD since it's been around longer and is more known by the general public.

In the grand scheme of things, the Day Date. For people in the know like us, it could be like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg?

IMO as far as design and appearance what sets apart Rolex from AP is the bracelets. I love the RO case/dial, but to me the bracelet is awful looking.

It depends on what 'you' think is iconic.

For watch guys, the RO has a unique look to it. I like it a lot.

But. If you want 'public' recognition. I highly doubt that 99% of the general population would not know what the RO was. Let alone give it a second look.

But 99% of the population would instantly recognize a DD.

I think I have only seen Arnie wear a RO in a movie. Can't remember which. And I am sure that very few people caught the obvious RO being flashed in the movie.

But I have seen countless flashes of a DD Rollie in every movie from Weekend at Bernies, to Wall Street to whatever 'status' or 'wealth' the movie wanted to portray.

If by iconic you mean more widely recognized, then the DD it is. I am not a huge fan of either designs, to be honest. That is not to say they are not fantastic pieces of horology, but aesthetically they don't move me.

I've recognized the DD as something special since I was about 8 years old back in 1982, long before I was really into watches. there were adverts in magazines, in the newspaper, on tv during golf tournaments, etc... I had no idea that the RO existed until about 6 years ago. I have a feeling that it's the same for lots of folks.
