Vote for yellow gold as well. It is a great classic choice and you will never regret yellow.

My first post.

I've been thinking about something similar as well for my next watch. I think it really depends on where or how often you plan on wearing your watch. I wear a SS Tag Carrera to work b/c its a little more modest and unassuming.

I just recently got great deals on a DSSD and a Panerai Luminor in Hong Kong and they are the watches I go to for everyday use when I'm out and about. I find that they are very versatile. I wear them with shorts/sandals as well as out to dinner with the wife etc. (The DSSD is more versatile than the Panerai and is my favourite watch).

I also have a WG DJ which I find I wear only with suits: weddings, conferences, etc.
Its a great watch but it has limitations; i.e. hard to dress it down.

I definitely think your age will have something to do with your choice. I'm 33 years old and I would not get a YG watch. WG is awesome b/c it can be very dressy but yet understated. For my next watch, I'm actually thinking of RG; I find it looks cooler and younger than YG but still very classy. I can't see myself buying a YG watch for at least another 10-15 years.

YG if I was you! It's something about yellow gold that just can't get out of my eye! WG I love, but when a rolex is on my hand, it has to be YG!

as a fellow resident of Hawaii, I would find that white gold would go much better with the more casual wear of Hawaiian lifestyle. Take this with a grain of salt, since I don't own a yellow gold (or white gold) watch, but for me personally, I would find very little time where a yellow gold watch would match my aloha shirt, haha. I suppose you could be one of the few people that actually has to wear a suit or even a dress shirt, so maybe yellow gold may suit your style just as well.

My first was a WG Daytona, but after several years, YG was calling me. I still like the stealth of my WG for certain events and places, but there are time I love the glow of YG on my wrist.

For me the Day-Date MUST be yellow gold, because when I think of the watch this is what comes immediately to my mind.

Have you tried on the DD and DD2 for a size comparison? 36mm is fine by me but if you have a bigger wrist The DD2 may be a better option

I think you're better served getting white gold. When I was 24 I bought a yellow gold DD and traded it ~6 weeks later. I just wasn't comfortable with that look. I found that if I wore yellow gold, it got positive and negative feedback. When I got a white gold Daytona instead, it got either no feedback or positive feedback - and the positive feedback was very positive and usually turned into a great discussion.

Why buy GOLD if you are bashful of what it is? GOLD is GOLD.
Unfortunately it doesn't matter what you "consider" it, WG is still gold, which is a fact, not something that's left to the discretion of each individual. As for the OP, WG is my preference, but in the end go with whichever looks to better to YOU, good luck with your hunt.

Absolutely agree. Whether the OP goes for YG or WG, it'll be an awesome time piece. Personally, I reckon at 24 WG would be the better choice, but whatever sings to him is gonna be the one!

My response was entirely based on my prior experience in OP's exact situation. When I was 24 I chose YG and didn't like the look personally, which is why I traded out of it. My decision was unrelated to the feedback I received.

I just went through this same thought process/issue.

Bought the sky dweller in WG, and a week later bought the Yacht master II in yellow gold.

After having both for a few weeks, I sold most of my SS watches (except 2 panerai divers and my submariner) and I will be buying another rose gold sky dweller in a few months. I feel like I can't go back. I like the weight better, and most importantly, having a tighter rotation of pieces.

JPS

^ BTW, this is an appropriate time to thank DavidSW for absolutely being the best person to ever deal with. What a pleasure, and what nice pieces….exactly as described, and so easy to work with.

WOW both incredible watches. If you are that close to the fence why not flip a coin. Heads YG! Tails WG! Good luck and look forward to your first wrist shots of your watch.
Aloha from Kauai,
Tom
