Curious, any members get ridiculed by family members for their Rolexes?

My father makes fun of me and calls my watch a "rolodex". But he loves my 14060.

Sometimes at work I get snarky comments like "you must be the only one getting raises around here", but I have to explain to these idiots that I don't have any kids or any cars, or a second home like they do.

I bought my Rolex from a childhood friend's son, who I've known all his life and consider my second son. He originally gave it to his dad, who promptly put it in his junk drawer after throwing out all the paperwork and box for it, believe it or not. He took it back from his dad after he found it in there one day after Sr had suffered a stroke. Same guy who asked me what it was like fu***** half a woman after telling him of my late wife's mastectomy. He's a total "package." I haven't given him the time of day since.

My brother proudly boasts about his rolex -- ya know, one with two "l's" that a friend of his brought back from a street vendor in NYC -- cuz ya know, my brother has NEVER even been to NYC. I got my family summertime function out of the way yesterday.

Ah, family. I write off those that annoy me. Just because we're related doesn't mean I have to put up with stupidity.
My family connections are down to a manageable number now, and no-one asks me for money. Get togethers are spent with people whose company we actually enjoy.

I say drive your best car and wear your most expensive watch. Tell them exactly how much it was and how hard you had to work to earn the money. The more it bothers you, the more they'll ridicule you. Standard bully behavior.

I'm not really sure what there is to ridicule about having a nice watch. If you can afford it and your family's taken care of, it's none of their business what you do with your disposable income. I'm sure they have some hobby/mistress/drug habit they spend their spare cash on too.

Luckily my family (by blood and in-laws) isn't the type to ridicule (or fart in each others cars on purpose).

could be as simple as a vacation. first class tickets vs coach, that's enough to get a rolex

Seriously no one in my family says anything negative about my watches, (1) they know better; (2) they compliment my collection, actually; and (3) they've known I collected watches since at a young age so it's nothing new.

Kin who criticize or bring unnecessary attention to your watch are, as you so eloquently stated, are beaver sh*t who are the insecure and jealous types who hate their life and themselves :D

I honestly have never had an issue with family, everyone works hard and have their ways of enjoying whatever it is that makes them happy. What I do though is use my head and try not to show up to a kid's birthday party, when I know some of the parents are struggling, wearing a Rolex or pull up in a fancy car. I am sensitive of how others feel and respectful of other's lifestyles.

Not the in-law side. My mother in-law have no idea what type of watch I am wearing. I brought her a Tissot in Geneva before, and she is very content with it, but she probably think it is a Seiko.

It's my parents that make a fuss over it. They are the one that brought me into luxury watches since childhood, telling me about the TT DateJust that my father wears. Now, when I buy a new watch, they say that I am a big spender, and should save some money for this and that... Then when I show them the watches I brought, they would look at it, and say this is a nice one, or they other one you brought before was better...

I drive a 911 and go about wearing my Rolex around family and friends alike. My family is a small, very tightly knit group so it's beyond a non issue there.

My friends usually ask about new watches, but knowing me and my love for watches, they don't do so in a negative tone.

Anyone who displays jealousy around me is dead to me. I don't flaunt money or talk about money, so I don't tolerate others making off color commentary.

I think I will take Bruce's thought on the next time these people come to my house. I am going to line up all nine of my Rolex watches on the bookshelf for them to bitch about.

Yes, my brother and my father... but mostly my brother. They're always annoying me for my Rolex and my car.

1) Fantastic at keeping their prices (re-sale value)
2) Aesthetically pleasing to any eye
3) A story...a milestone in ones life.

You forgot a personnal pleasure, I can dispose my 6 on my bed and pass 1-2 hours looking at each, taking of the dust, making sure they all run precise to the second.

As for the post topic, I always wear, to family or friend meetings, a Pam, not one person I know knows what the hell it is, and 99% of the time they don't notice anything, the rare times they notice and they ask me what it is, I say "used to be diver watches for the italian navy divers but they went on regular production", and that's it, I guess they imagine it's watches that go for 800-1000 euros max which is fine by me, but I almost never, except if hidden under my sleeves, wear my Rolexes in family/friend reunions...

Yep. Lucky for him he said it over the phone. Showed up about two weeks after she'd passed. Asked after almost 20 minutes "Oh, how's Pen doing?" Replied, she's over there, while pointing to her urn. All he said was, "I'll say a prayer for her." This from a guy I've known since 1969. He's a consistent A hole, I'll give 'em that.
