Find a decent 16610 and an after market dial/bezel insert! VIOLA! There are lots of qualified watchmakers that will service this combination; just not an RSC....

No question. In fact we have a number of members who are exceptional watchmakers (and I highly encourage everyone to work with them). The issue is that Rolex is increasingly tightening up its policies and one of them is that service on modified Rolexes is unacceptable. The punishment for non-compliance is possible loss of their parts account. I've spoken with a number of watchmakers who are increasingly concerned about risking such a critical source of Rolex parts (try telling a customer that their eBay parts are delayed or got outbid). Sure the customer can promise to keep quiet but that's a lot of faith against one's livelihood. Sadly the brands are making life for independents very difficult. I can see an ominous trend - no more independents and all services will have to go through the brands or brand approved ADs.

Love how it looks, has anyone done this with a green ceramic insert/bezel?

ABC WatchWerks used to do the modifications on the Rolex watches. But not anymore.

I love it, but then I would! I did this after seeing a couple of others online and love it. Not trying to look like a smurf or fool anyone, just something a bit different that has got loads of comments.
Had no problem getting an independent to swap the bezel (whole white gold unit as opposed to just the insert) and I still have the steel/black bezel so can easily swap it back if I want RSC to service it. Interestingly my independent said they would only swap if it was a genuine Rolex part.... |

Would this work with the bezel from the Hulk to make a ceramic Kermit?

I don't think swapping the inserts on the ceramics is that big of a deal, seen it done a few times now on Subs and GMTs. I have no issue with swapping just the blue dial or bezel, but not with both as that is too disingenuous and deceptive.

SS + Sub + Color = LVC. Not a huge fan of green but give me the original LVC and not a fake blue Sub anytime of the day, even with a stupid nickname.

My guess is that there are people in both camps.

I thought the Ceramic models had to come apart from the inside of the watch after the movement was removed? I thought when they went to Ceramic from Aluminum the whole assembly that rotated was very much different. So if you tried to jimmy off the bezel with a butter knife on a Ceramic model you would in essence ruin your watch or at the very least really mark it up.

Also I love the color Blue! I dont need a watch to be all gold and would prefer it if it wasn't. Down the road I may mod a 116610 (have a trade going for this fall for one) with the 116619 dial and bezel. I found a guy willing to do the mod. He said you would be 4K-6K for the mod with me supplying the watch. So for 11K-13K I get a beautiful Sub all in Blue which is my favorite color. Trying to be a 116619 wantabee..........Nope, just love the color Blue and dont want to spend 32K!

You have a point, but I'm not a fan of any 'upgrade' mod like a full blue ceramic Sub (not your case). That's why I call it fake. It's trying to be something that it's not, and I won't be convinced otherwise. Never saw someone with the WG model with black dial and black insert just because he/she likes the weight but not the blue dial. With the 5 digit it just looks fake because if you have a clue you know the model does not exist. But to each his own of course.
