You guys really need to stop referring to newer cases as "rolex made them chunkier". So the lugs are bit wider, but look how it wears on a bracelet - the watch case just stands out so much clearer compared to regular style case seen since 70s. If you took the 50s original Big Crown sub however, you will notice that it wears exactly the same as subc does today / it just pops against bracelet. The Daytona and Sub models of 80s/90s cases wear as part of bracelet, like a smooth transfer from bracelet to case. The SubC sticks out from bracelet, which IMHO is a lot nicer and looks truer to original. When people say "oh they made it chunkier" they fail to realize what Rolex actually did. Arguably not many see the big crown today to compare, but trust me / pull up the pics of both side to side and you will see the resemblance.

As for OP, the daytona wears too small on my 7 1/4 wrist too and I wouldnt have it. If I want a chrono will go with Speedmaster as its size and styling is bang on.

it's 6.75 for sure.

(edit) Just re-measured - I'm 6.5 now. I lost 8lbs since last time I measured ( a couple months ago). Still.

A Daytona certainly isn't too small for any wrist under 8".

Some of the photos I see on here seem extreme in the other direction to me.

Gold Daytona models have a slightly larger case correct?

Is this true? Actually I tried the platinum Daytona and for some reason it didn't seem small but when I tried the SS and TT Daytona they seemed smaller. Don't think there's a difference in size but don't know why I felt that way

Exactly. I see many watches that are too big and hardly any that look small.

Most of it is what you get used too, If you wear a 36mm watch a 44mm + will look huge and vice versa.

Gentlemen, no 7" wrist is the same shape. Physiologically, we are all different and hence the shapes of our wrists are different. When you add bone structure to the equation you will come up with almost infinite possibilities. Wear whatever you like...

Your wrist size is average, I think.

Personally I'd be more concerned about the overall appearance.

5'10 and 180ish lbs.

It fills my wrist out pretty well. IMHO, best fitting watch I've ever owned.

Overall it depends on what you like.

I see lots of guys with big watgs that have lugs hanging over their wrists.

Looks silly to me.

This is my experience, especially if you have a sub or GMT the bezel really gives the perception that it is a good deal larger than the Daytona

It really comes down to do you really like the Daytona or don't you because let's face it it actually looks good on ANY size wrist

My wrist is 6.5 inches.....

Daytona wears fine on my 7 3/8 wrist so can't see why it wouldn't on your 7.1 wrist. At end of the day too many people are caught up on how big a watch is versus how good it looks. If I like a watch I wear it and could care less what anyone else thinks. Taste is personal and quite subjective so go by yours not the next guys.

Is there any one else out there who feels the platinum. Daytona feels bigger on the wrist than the TT and SS version or is it just me? Maybe it's the colour combination.. I don't know

The 6538 still had smaller lugs with a curve and a 20mm bracelet. It looks a little more blocky than later watches, because the case is narrower, but I think it's a stretch to say the 6538 and 116610 resemble each other. The 116610 lugs are too chunky and blocked off straight. If Rolex added a little taper to the 116610 lugs, and then used a 22mm bracelet, I could maybe see where you're coming from, but, to many, it seems off in its current form.

To the OP, I think the Daytona's size is great on your size of wrist.

Believe that "some" of the PM models are 1mm+ wider than than SS and TT counterparts.... search around or perhaps someone can chime in on here re: the size difference.

Also, you can tell that the lugs are wider, and the case is more curved with feet at the four points of the bottom of the underside of the case. Not sure if the overall case is thicker than SS, but others have commented that it does look bigger....

Isn't the bezel thicker/wider? I know I can look up measurements but just looking at Tom's platona and the PM one below it, the brown bezel seems bigger and more prominent.

As for the size, it absolutely is in part what you're used to seeing.

Daytona small on a 6.5" wrist?

My opinion is may be small for a wrist if it is adjusted to the maximum pin size and multiple additional links need to be added in order to fit

But if some multiple links need to be removed and resized much smaller not sure it can be too small for a wrist.

Feels about right on my 7 3/8" wrist.

I am debating a daytona right now as well, I have a 7.5" wrist; 6'1" ~200lb. I briefly tried one on in the store and it felt a little small but I've been wearing a SubC everyday for 6 months.

My advise would be to go cold turkey on wearing a watch for a week then try it on and see how it feels.

I'll prob get one regardless because I like the watch - there was a time when I thought the SubC was too small, now it's the largest I will probably go!

My wrists are skinny, I still think my TT Daytona looks small. Yes I am used to and love my GMT IIc, however I still like the Daytona. Only like it, I'm hoping it grows on me. LOL
