Rags, before this one devolves into a school yard argument I'll add my 2 cents. Since you've been made whole by your insurance company there is no reason to hold onto the box, papers etc on a hope that they may recover the watch when someone tries to get it serviced. They won't ask for this material unless you want to try reclaim it from them and give them their money back (if they will even allow this). Also they seems to bring up bad memories so why keep them around.
Some of the members asking for details of the theft may actually want to learn from your misfortune. Yes there may be a few rubber necking but if your story can help other avoid the same fate why not share a little more info. I know that wasn't your reason for posting this thread but I'm sure you understand it's a natural question. You may be able to help other as well as provide yourself with some solice. As I said ....... JMO ......

Guys no need for sympathy, I am a big boy. Sorry that awareness was not properly raised for those of you that need specific details in order to learn from other people's mistakes.

Your story seems to be more a lesson about partying, and partying with strangers, rather than the fact you traveled to where you were robbed. Focusing on the "travel" aspect while omitting the circumstances (partying) is just a misdirect. |

I suppose it's a little better than my friend who had his Explorer II stolen on the plane. He boarded the flight from LAX to Taiwan and once he got off the plane, he realized that the Rolex is no longer on his wrist. A number of things could have happened. That's one of the most uncommon story I had ever heard.

Ok. to RAGS,
So There were 47 replies on this thread, and a LOT of them asking you HOW the watch was stolen, and you repeatedly refuse to answer. My apologies and sorry for your "LOSS". And I am sure everyone here is sympathetic and wish you the best, BUt your refusal to ANSWER about DETAILS to HELP the members here ( which is what this forum is about, is to assist and educate everyone) raises some suspicion on the circumstances. I will NOT speculate out of respect and I suggest your NEXT reply to this thread is to provide details. regards

The OP probably had an embarrassing experience associated with how the watch was "stolen".

Lucky I made it out of there twice in the last 3 weeks with GMT on wrist. Now safely in CA, made out of LA alive as well...and I know what time it is.
Bummer were not all so lucky. |

I'm kinda suspects that's what had happened. He's known to take sleep pills when he's on a long flight. Yeah, what it's a real shame that someone would do that. But these days, he just joked about it. I guess people do get over it haha. If it was me, I would remain bitter to the end of my day

Irrespective of the circumstances surrounding the OP's loss, you have to use common sense when travelling with a Rolex, or any other high end item.
My job involves a lot of travel. I very seldom leave Singapore with a Rolex on my wrist unless I'm going back to the UK. Apart from the likelihood of it getting dinged up pretty bad on a ship when I'm away on a job, I travel to some places where it's necessary to check over my shoulder before pulling an iPhone out of my pocket. To make a blanket statement like it is/is not safe to travel with a Rolex is less than sensible. It depends where you're travelling, where you'll be staying, under what circumstances and who with.

Well the OP is a total let down. Probably trying to sucker the insurance company to get money when realistically he probably still has the watch hidden at a "friends" or "family's" house. I don't buy the story he gave about the bachelors party and that woman, even though it HAS happened before, but something doesn't feel right about this guy

If I had to guess the theft was a result of poor judgment with a women, and/or alcohol, while on a business trip. Due to the circumstances he probably could not file a police report so he needed to convince his insurance company of the loss without a report or getting into specifics. The lack of a real story probably became apparent to his insurance company.
When I get insurance on my watches they require documentation and photos of the watch before they issue a policy. I've never had a claim but there would be no doubt I owned the watch. I can't imagine an insurance company would need a pic of me wearing the watch just before it was stolen to cover the loss. How often does someone take a pic of their watch? This request sounds like there was some question from the insurance company about the claim. I've worn a Rolex on countless trips over the last 30 years in the US and Europe and Japan, never had a second thought about it. Obviously he does not want to discuss it. Not hard to use your imagination on why. |

I actually read his originally thread and I too, vote for a ban. This guy isn't making any sense and I haven't seen the post where he actually admitted what had happened except for the post that CRM114 quoted from him. Something fishy here and I would bet that it's what I said on my post earlier. I think he's doing insurance fraud

If the insurance company have paid out then the box and papers or anything directly associated with the watch no longer belong to you. Frankly I'm amazed they've not asked you for them, so even if the watch is picked up at a later date during service with Rolex, it's no longer your concern as it belongs to the insurance brokers.
Quite frankly I'm dubious that Rolex even care if a watch comes to them for service is stolen or not, unless it's been specifically flagged with them directly by an insurance company so I doubt you'll ever hear of it again. Regarding how it came to go missing in the first place, I'll bet I travel more than 99% of the members on here to a whole host of less than desirable global destinations by nature of my job. One or two places I won't even take the Rolex, I'll wear my old Seiko instead, not because I'm worried about losing the watch, I'm worried about them taking my hand to get to to it! It goes without saying, never take your watch off even while you sleep or bathe, don't flash it around, don't lock it in a hotel room safe because they are a joke and IF you tangled with a nightfighter who took it from your possession in a moment of drunken passion then let that be lesson in life for you. You're not the first and you won't be the last to get caught by that one, but hopefully you won't ever be the next again either. You've got the money, move on, buy another and enjoy it. Life's too short to keep going over the events that led to you losing it. |

I not only think the Rolex never existed I don't even think the trip existed.
