Fluted is the traditional Rolex. It's all a matter of taste, though. Now, the fluted bezel is white gold and more expensive than the plain bezel. In my case, I would not consider buying a smooth bezel DJ.

I just added this yesterday. I've owned fluted and smooth and in this dial I STRONGLY prefer smooth!! Can't go wrong either way but the smooth is classic and a little sporty. Plus you are 27 and to me smooth is more youthful. Buy it!!!

You can NOT go wrong with smooth!!! Plus at 27 yrs old I think the fluted is perfect and very versatile. + its $2000 cheaper but I would have chosen smooth even if they were the same price....

...but didn't I read somewhere in this thread that you already have an Explorer I? If so, why not get a fluted DJ as your dressier watch and use the Explorer more as your casual watch? No matter what you get you are going to wind up having one your prefer with nicer clothes and one your prefer with shorts/t-shirts. I say go for the fancier one this time around.

I chose the fluted bezel for myself and have never regretted it. The fluted bezel will not show scratches as readily as the smooth bezel does.

I find the fluted bezel on the DJ2 too big. Go for smooth!

Always loved fluted bezels over smooth. Yesterday at an AD tried on the platinum DD with smooth bezel and loved it! Problem is, little outta my price range.

Smooth or fluted, I strongly suggest you buy the DJ 40mm instead of the DJ II. Better looks and improved movement. Of course, I insist: Fluted on Jubilee rocks the world.

Just my opinion but I'm 32 and find the Fluted to be an "Older Gentleman" look.

Smooth camp here. A notch dressier than the Explorer I, so it can conceivably take on the dressy/sporty role with ease.
The fluted bezel just blings a little too loud for me. Great watch, dont get me wrong, but I think it has a more limited purpose vs the smooth. |

Smooth with oyster, looks sportier. Fluted is dressy. But you can never go wrong with either one, it's a Rolex 👍🏼

I originally wanted fluted and now seriously considering smooth. Seems like the votes are split right down the middle. Like most said, if you choose one, you will always wonder about the other. Now I'm leaning towards fluted again. LOL

While a DJ may be dressier than an Explorer it is by no means a dress watch.
If I were in the market for a DJ - I would go for the blue Romans w smooth bezel. Looks fantastic. |

tough one, as I do think fluted goes better with romans, but I also think smooth is a better choice for a SS DJ and definitely would go fluted with a TT or DD. In the end, I'd probably go fluted, as it's a bit more visually interesting, and with the romans makes for a dressier piece. If for some reason you want it to be a bit more under the radar, smooth would be great too.
