Rolex claimed the cost of developing the BLRO insert was expensive. When you factor in how few they probably sell, it's no wonder they charge so much. Kind of hard to justify spreading the cost across other product lines.

Yes Steve, yours was one that came to mind, it would be interesting to know what's going on with these inserts. Glad yours is back on deck, awesome piece by the way!

Yeeesh, sorry to hear that. Does anyone know of this is the price of a ceramic bezel across the board? After seeing this and an earlier sub that had a cracked glass I'll be taking it very easy on my watch.

I can tell you that I hit my hand EXTREMELY hard into a pointed door handle. Im surprised the crystal didn't crack or the bezel didn't dent.

Im not happy about it, but at the end of the day its just a watch. Not like I lost a finger. Its all replaceable.

Also, I'm playing with the cracked pieces of the bezel. Its actually VERY strong. I cannot break it by hand. Im trying to bend it and its very solid. Almost like trying to bend a dinner plate to crack it. Im surprised how strong it actually is.

Im in London but going back to the states next week. Maybe Ill take it to the states and the timeframe for repair will be sooner.

The crystal was fine.

$1200 to replace insert. If I needed to change the bezel the cost would have been an additional $4,000 (half the cost of a submariner) lol

What kills me is the time. Bezel has to come from Geneva. They get their shipments once per month. So they will place the order and hope it comes in beginning of November. The gal told me it likely won't and the last Pepsi bezel that broke took them 3 months to get.

Oh ya, watch is 2 weeks old. What can you do but just chuckle.

Wearing this in the meantime. Not a Rolex... but definitely this bezel won't crack

My guess is that ceramic inserts for say a ss GMT would be less. Theoretically they should be the same, but given how many more ss watches with ceramic inserts they make (and the price of the entire watch itself) I doubt they charge the same. Pure speculation.

Sorry to hear this and good luck with the repair. I guess with a $35k+ watch, Rolex doesn't feel $1,200 is all that bad.

I'm going to be extra careful with mine.

Sorry that happened to your beautiful 2 week old watch. Hope the repair does not take 3 months.

For that price I would seriously consider aftermarket insert replacement.

When you buy a $30k+ white gold Rolex, and crack the bezel... you don't skip out on a $1200 repair bill to put an aftermarket bezel. You may end up saving $1,000 going aftermarket. Not worth it in my mind.

Maybe it's cheaper and faster in the states. I will probably get my watch back from the RSC and take it to the states and try there.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but I think your attitude toward the mishap is quite healthy.

Good luck on the replacement.

I'm glad your taking it well. $1200 is a lot for an insert, but waiting 5 months hurts waaaay more.

True, all you can do is laugh. No sense in getting all worked up all over it. It's shocking the price to replace the insert. Then add the whole bezel unit and it almost ridiculous. 5200.00 is out right disgusting. Makes me double think my Plat Coke just because..

Look at the bright side: if the watch wasn't there to take the blunt of the force, you had probably fractured your wrist or worse.

I wouldn't go that far. Cosmetically it makes it look a lot nicer and more modern. Sometimes you have to pay to play.

On the bright side, the ceramic insert didn't scratch.

I notice the breaks are through the points where the bezel is relieved to take the platinum infill.
It's as I've always suspected with the design of the Ceramic bezel, in that it's a weak point/stress raiser anywhere the reliefs are located in the ceramic material.
It looks like you got a little unlucky in this instance as a chipped Crystal would be far easier to stomach in the grand scheme of things.
It's very interesting the individual pieces are tough to break in their own right.
It's the exact same scenario with Ceramic kitchen Knives.

Given the replacement Ceramic bezels have previously been reportedly as priced at about the $750 mark, I wonder if the $1200 costing is to also allow for potential breakages in the replacement process

I think there is a premium to the Pepsi bezel. If a $9k watch has a $750 bezel cost. It's a deal when a $37k watch has a $1200 bezel cost.

Thanks everyone for their comments. It just sucks because the watch is only 2 weeks old and now it's gone for months. It is what it is, things can always be worse.
