It's completely up to you bud. Some people prefer to have the latest; of course, it's going to have a cost but I can see your rationale behind it all. Pay a little more to have a brand new watch and fall in love again for a small price. People do it all the time with cars; it's called leasing. =)

I'm in the school that you service when the watch needs it due to not working within specs. If your Hulk has no issues in a year or two don't service. Just wear and enjoy. No need to buy a new watch.

Unless you need to be the original owner....service when due and enjoy.

I can see his point. If there's no sentimental attachment and you can sell the one you have high and buy a new one low ( or at least a good price), why not do it?

So in other words for an extra $500 he gets a new watch and 3 more years on warranty. |

When leasing, by the time the lease is up, the car model in question at least has upgrades or more options. OP would be selling his Hulk to buy the exact same watch. |

I get what you're saying but the OP is getting a brand new unstickered watch with a five year warranty. He wouldn't have to wait for the watch while it's in service either. It's a no brainer for me.

Reasonable move if you anticipate a big repair bill coming I guess. I on the other hand, am not so good with fortune telling.

This is exactly how I feel. However, I do have a spoon that holds a very special place in my heart.

If there is nothing wrong with the watch I would suggest hold off service until 8 to 10 years. My gmt2c when I got it brand new was behind a few sec per day. I had Rolex regulate it and now it keeps perfect time. I have my watch for 7 years now with no service. I'm holding to 10 years to have it service. Service cost estimate $600 from Rolex. If independent delete maybe cheaper.

i tend to doubt you really would be able to sell it at what you are expecting. if you really can having a bnib one with 5 year makes sense to me. i'd do it if not a pita. |

It would be a pain to sell it and then buy it again. Just get it serviced.

How many times have you needed to utilize your warranty? It's great to have but it really only has value if you use it. By the time you factor everything in, I'd just say screw it and get it serviced and keep it. Enjoy the memories.

The price for a brand new Hulk today would be quite different from what you paid 5 years ago. Unlike a car, your new Hulk has no advantage over your 5 year old example. Ok, 5 year warranty... but what's wrong with yours again?

For me, the longer I have a Rolex, the harder it is to part with. Don't you have any memories with that hulk? I would hang on to it and get another model new!

Assuming service is 700 and a new one would only be 1000 in difference. 100% better off going for the new one. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't value 3 years warranty for $300. Plus it's nice to get a new watch (:

Why does yours need service? It's only five years old.

OP; I believe I understand where you are coming from; I would do it in the context which you are asking.
