5 yr old Hulk - Service or Sell and Buy New?

I have a 5 year old Hulk in great condition that will be in need of service sometime in the next few years. A service will cost me around $500 I believe - correct me if i am wrong.

I have been seeing pre loved prices in my area (Toronto) for around 9k cad.

I am confident i can get my hands on a BNIB Hulk from an AD for around 10,000-10,500cad all in.

Would it make sense to service my watch or would I be better off selling it and spending the extra $500-1k to have a new one with stickers and 5 yr warranty?

Sorry just cannot see the point I would keep the one you have now and have it serviced in the next year or so, after service you will have a full two year warranty.

I have a five year old Hulk and it keeps dang near perfect time and I'll wear it until it doesn't, then I'll have it serviced. Buy a new one, don't think so.

Do you buy a new car every time it needs an oil change?
Unless you want a new one for whatever reason, I don't see the point in replacing it just because it's due for a service.

Personally I'd find doing all that switching around buying and selling a pain in the butt. Time is money :)

Also I'd want to keep my original 5 yr old watch for sentimental reasons

I serviced mine at about 5 years. Came back like new and I'm glad to still have the watch with which I've done so much.

Plus, I prefer the older dial font.

Totally agree. A $500 routine maintenance is no reason in flipping it for the same exact model.

Keep it. Makes no sense to trade on a new one. Not talking cars here.

I would keep it and not have it serviced to be honest. If it keeps good time and hasn't been abused. Let it run for a couple more years.

I can hear the bullets being loaded as I type. Lol

^^^ I agree. Think about the places that watch has been to and the stories it can tell. A new one has none of that.

I think the OP is interested in the new 5 year warranty. If you service the watch, you'll only get 2 years. 500 for 3 extra years of piece of mind is not bad IMO.

I think you have a good grasp on the OP's strategy.

The question is would either watch actually require service/repair within the warranty period? My bet would be "no".

And, does his current watch require service? OP, is it running egregiously slow or fast?

I just don't get the logic here either.

Why trade a perfectly good watch for an identical one which, although is new, is exactly the same?

I would not do it.

My watches aren't just "things". We all process the world differently. For me, the fact that my watches have been with me thru various experiences transforms the watches into objects which I value differently than say a fork or a pair of shoes.

LOL.

I value certain pairs of shoes more than my Rolex 14060m.

Aren't we humans odd...

No, only when the ashtray gets full.

Service the Hulk, as I see little sense in trading and then getting new. Then again it's only money, so your call.

OP, the pre owned prices you see are far higher than any dealer will give you on the Hulk you currently have for cash. You are much better off paying for the service and getting the warranty.

You also said that, " in need of service sometime in the next few years". So, really there is nothing wrong with it at this moment? Just keep it, unless there is something you don't like about it. If that's the case, a new one won't resolve that.

Good luck!

If worn infrequently, your watch may not need service for another 5 years. I wouldn't sell even if I have to service it sooner. Watches are not "disposable items" that we get rid of once become used. I keep my watches until I longer love them; just personal preference...

I wouldn't service the watch.

However, if you really want it to be serviced, if you can truly get a new 116610LV for under $1000 cost, then sure go for it, but that would be pretty surprising for me.

Here in the US the MSRP is $9050 and the best trade-in value I could find was $7000.

If this is your view, and it is a common one amongst us WIS, then you should keep it, but if you have not been thru anything with your watch and you fancy it all nice and sparkling new then go for it.

I'm confused. You have the watch now...you're asking if you should spend money to service that very watch, sell it, then spend an additional $1K to get the same watch again? Why do that?
