Buy it all day long, I understand your reservations about profiteering from your AD relationship. If it doesn't sing to you when it arrives you could always sell it for the price you paid and move on.

Have a look when you get the call and then decide what you think. At this point it sounds like a pass for you.

Have to agree and thats one of the main things that getting the so called new ceramic Daytona is in short supply to some.I would say 1 in every 5 bought at the moment are flipped to the grey market for profit. Thus depriving those who really want to own the Daytona C for themselves, it was the same with the original Daytona way back in 2000.

I would pass based on how you have described your feelings toward the watch. I have been around the block with the Daytona in all PM except Platinum and in SS. I also have large wrists and the watch for me is too small. I have tried to make it work but it just does not. The PP, while beautiful, also wears small. I would keep the DD II as I think it is a great watch and out of production. How about a SS DJ II with a dial that you do not have on one of your other watches?

Why would you feel bad after buying from AD and then flipping it? Your AD is making a profit, they would not sell to you otherwise. So if you make a couple of bucks, why does that hurt your relationship with the AD? You are not obligated to tell the AD you flipped it.
Personally I think that paying over list price for a watch is nuts, but people are willing to do it to get it, it is simple supply and demand, you did not create this problem.

I would opt for the 5712 but it's your decision.

Buy it, as it'll be a classic and hold better value long after the Patek.

I agree. I know most in this forum would kill me for the following story. I got in my AD list for the new 116500LN (the white dial one) the day it was revealed in Basel. I got a call two weeks ago saying it had arrived in the store (8 months later). Price was retail. I thought hard between the difference of me loving it, and me supposed to love it because all the hype. I decided to let it go this time and let someone else enjoy it.

I think it's an amazing watch, but I feel played by Rolex with all the artificial scarcity around it. I get more excited when I see vintage Daytonas, an even the more recent 16520. In the end --and this will sound crazy-- I can't get past the PCLs... I know I can polish them, but it sounds more like jewelry than an honest tool watch as it was in its beginnings. Maybe someday it'll call me again. Just not now.

I agree with IWilliam above.
Try a DJ 2 in SS or the mighty Polar Explorer 2 42mm.
Both these watches are slightly bigger than a Daytona C. Better for a larger wrist.
They both measure 21mm across the lugs so the bracelet is wider too at the case end.

technically it is supply and demand but truthfully supply and demand means the cost of something gone up because of a LEGITIMATE scarcity....

rolex could end all this horsecrap at anytime.....why they choose to let ' greys' charge MORE than they do is laughable.....rolex with this move has made me lose some respect for their lame tactics.....

the daytona-c is nothing more than a 'myth'....its not scarce......it will always be available and one day they will be easy to get as the previous daytona....

OP: Any updates to this thread?

FWIW, I would take the Daytona, if that's still an option.

Yea they will. Current going rate for white dial is around $15k
However, black dial is a dog unless TS has a customer waiting for it

Buy it wear it and enjoy. After a year or so sell it and you won't lose any money.

I'm sure their are some 'greys' that will pay someone 'over' list...but truthfully they are getting from ADs at list.....

plenty of evidence to support ADs selling @ msrp to consumers.....

considering the 'top' greys are far more well connected I'm pretty sure they get at msrp as well......

would any grey take and do a quick flip for $$ sure....but at that point why should a seller who picked up a daytona c do the grey a favour? just flip at the greys selling price rather than taking a 'hit'

greys are making a KILLING on daytona c's with roughly $5000 markups.....probably more because I'm pretty sure some 'top' greys pay LESS than MSRP for the daytona-c

until i see evidence of what the top greys are 'paying' for the daytona-c BNIB from a regular joe we can only speculate.....greys need to flip for profit and make no mistake their margins are 'high'

I agree that most greys probably do pay msrp from theirs AD's. However I know for a fact that the majority of greys inventory of D500C's are coming from people who are flipping. They are paying 2-3 k over msrp and then adding 2-3 k to re sell

like i said...until i see 'proof' of what a 'flipper' gets paid from Davidsw for example than this is all speculative.....

furthermore.....based on this theory i for one might as well post an ad offering $15000 for a bnib daytona-c and than flip myself for $17500....thats an easy $2500...

if its too good to be true.......

my guess is MOST are keeping their daytona-c's

the greys daytona-c's are direct from ADS 99% of the time......

again...rolex could stop this at anytime.......rolex is partaking in this 'crap' by creating an artificial supply-demand problem.....
