Tough question but I'd say go 39. It is true that the 36 wears larger than it is but the 39 definitely has a bigger wrist presence. And in regards to the color dots around the hour markers, they really do disappear in person. Hard to explain, but they stick out like a sore thumb in photos but in person they are barely noticeable.

I vote 116000, 36mm, love the fit, the understated look, the choice of dials is far superior, IMO, to the 39mm version.

I would go with the 39 mm. It's the only oyster perpetual with the upgraded 3132 movement. I have the same wrist size as you and agonized between the 36 mm and the 39 mm Explorer. I went with the 39 mm Explorer. The size is perfect. Given your age, I think your peers will find the 36 mm small.

Da6o... I would recommend the 39mm. I own the Dark Rhodium. The coloured markers are a different touch that I've come to really appreciate. It's not to say that this is a young person's watch but the splash of colour gives it a modern touch, especially blue on grey, that works well for someone your age.

As a child I always loathed why someone would choose a 36mm dateless watch??? Now I've grown up I see why...

The OP 36mm is such an understated and elegant piece, and so versatile with the indices only dials. I also love the brushed bracelet and classic case finishing! (Just for reference my wrist measures 7" and I'm a professional man in my mid-forty's).

The 39mm (in Rhodium) appeared so big, it was the only new Rolex I didn't even bother to try on. I thought the coloured dial pips definitely didn't suit Rolex. I was also concerned the pips were the beginning of cheaper made things to come from Rolex, IMHO.

Get a 36mm with with the 3 6 9 Blue dial. A blue explorer with some dressy hands lol. Too bad they don’t offer the black with the 3 6 9 anymore. I remember a thread on here where a guy got the black only available for short time probably because Rolex thought it was too similar to the explorer

I wavered on this for a couple of months and the 36mm with 3-6-9 indicators ended up being a slam dunk.

A bit sportier and more versatile and I'd agree with others that it "wears big". I found that it had more wrist presence than the 39.

I'm 6'3 and it looks absolutely fine.

For classic proportions and plenty size on the wrist, the 36mm is the one I would (and did) choose. I recommend it very highly.

Mine is the steel dial but I'd also recommend you have a good look at the new 2018 version white dial. With clean, simple design (and no coloured index dots) both of these have a strong claim to be the most classically well proportioned watches in the current lineup.

Prior to the introduction of the white and black dial 39mm, I would have probably gone with the 36mm in silver or blue, but now my choice would be the 39mm with the white dial. Unless you have a very small wrist, it should look fine.

I was going to suggest the Explorer. I have one and constantly stare at it lol!
Anyway go with what you like and get the OP, I suggest wearing both during a visit to an AD.
Take a look at it with the naked eye.
Then take pictures of it and see from your phone.
Get a good feel on what wears better on your wrist as well.

I did the same thing when I got my Explorer. I was torn between the 36 and the 39. I have the same exact wrist size as yours 6.75-6.8. Both looked good, what did it for me was if I was the 39 looked better with the bracelet and it felt more snug. The 36mm on the bracelet looked a little small for me. even though it looked perfect on a strap.

The movement on the 39 OP is exactly the same as the Explorer's movement. It adds a paraflex shock absorber to the 3130 movement which is on the 36 OP. Not that you'd notice a big difference but always a good to know.
