A lot of dress watch love for on here for JLC. I'll be going to Vegas in a couple of weeks and I'm scoping out JLC dealers there now. I think I need to spend some time seeing these in person. The Reverso seems universally revered, so I think that would be a good one to get a closer look at as well.

Strongly recommend the ALS Saxonia. If you're open to the idea, check out the 37mm thin model on the secondary market for some additional $ savings.

I want a master control geographic to fill the "dress" watch in my collection. I have gotten away with the speedy on black croc strap in a black tie setting pretty well, IMO.

I don't own an ALS piece, however If I was in the market for a dress watch they'd certainly be toward the top.

I think this is a real great dressy option! Might put it on an alligator strap!

Not a dress watch guy normally but there are some great pieces on this thread that are calling me to the dark side. That Grand Seiko 250 series especially!

What about IWC Portugieser 8 Day Manual Winding? See through caseback with power reserve indicator. Model 510202 (black dial) or 510203 (white dial).

I picked this Montblanc up last weekend to be used as my dress watch. 38mm diameter and 5.8mm thin. Well below your budget as well.

As a long time Cellini owner, I can heartily recommend it. It’s classic fitness and face give an understated but elegant look as a dress watch.

Day-Date for sure.. A clean 18038 should be possible within your budget.. Probably not on a president though.. But it also looks cool on a strap...

Another alternative is a pre-owned Omega De Ville Tresor, if an acceptable pre-owned watch just happened to come along. It has a cool, hand-wound version of Omega's in-house, twin-barrel, co-axial movement.

The JLC you pointed out is nice, but it looks as dressy as the omega you already have. Some good suggestions in this thread, I especially like the idea of a vintage 36mm day date within your budget.

The Cellini on your pics looks the most balanced and is the nicest imo

Between the two you posted, I think the JLC is the better watch due to the movement and finishing but it's definitely on the more casual side of dressy due to the date, the blue accents, and arguably the Arabic numerals. I'm not a big Cellini fan but, between the two you posted, I think it functions better as a dress watch. The fact that it's white gold is a nice bonus too.
That written, I would opt for a different steel JLC over both of your choices. I would personally be looking at the Master Ultra Thin Moon, the Master Calendar, and a Reverso (either a simple one with sub seconds or the current or last generation calendar version if you want a date and a moonphase). These three JLCs are all timeless, high value watches. Of course the Langes are simply gorgeous and the 35mm Saxonia is a tremendous bargain, if not inexpensive. The Montblanc mentioned is a lovely watch and a tremendous bargain as well. |

I vote for the Cellini between those two.
I’m also headed to Vegas in a few weeks, I will be watch shopping when I get there too. I need to see some dress watches in the metal. I’ll be staying at the Encore, so I’ll definitely be popping in at the Wynn’s Rolex shop. I’m leaning towards the rose gold, white dial, not sure between brown or black strap... likely brown. I wish someone on the forum owned one... |

i'd go cellini between those two as the sector dial doesn't read "dress watch" for me, but that's just me. Other ideas-- either this: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/ca...-gold-hands-on
or a nomos. either orion or ludwig. |

I know some people will disagree with me, but I say get a DJ 36 or 41 (SS or TT) and put it on a very nice dress leather strap. Or a DD already on a leather strap.
Maybe this DD, or one of these DJs on a leather strap, for example: |

Dress Watch
I did lots of research on this topic and bought and sold many in the process! I ended up with the JLC MUT Moon. You can get the black dial or Rhodium - but given this was going to be a dress watch it had to be silver / while.
Sure it’s not ALS Soxonia Moon - but hey, for a 1/4 of the price it will do given the wrist time I give a dress watch! Plus my collection is getting Rolex heavy A so wanted a change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
