i think what it means is that if you make each part of the watch sequentially, it would take one year to finish.

Yeah I get that, they probably make a million pieces a year and say "it takes a year to produce each one", which would mean they start producing 1 million watches on day one and finish production of that million watches after a year. Do they really have the capacity to spend an entire year on a million watches, all at the same time? I find it hard to beleive. We will never know for sure with the secrecy around their sales figures, so I guess we'll have to take their word for it.

First time I've heard it pronounced officially Hoe-dinky. Pretty unexpected. I assumed it would Hod-in-Key. Hoe-dinky it is. Learn something new every day. Year to make a Rolex? How was that established?
