My dad gave a DJ when I was probably 28. I then bought my first Rolex (BLNR) just before I turned 29 a few months later.

This is really good advice.

Hang on guys....
Am I the only person in the world that doesn’t take any notice of Rolex numbers?

For example I have no idea what number my current Explorer 11 is, apart from it being a 6 digit model, and I’ll be damned if I knew what my DJ number is/ was!

For simplicity can you just put eg: GMT Pepsi, Jubilee, 2001 model, bought in 2005?

That way I can visualise what model you have.

Thanks!

For me it was an OP36 with the Harley dial!!! Traded it for a Sub C; bought a black and white concentric to replace it. Have a dial to replace the black and white one with to get it back to orange. It was just about when I joined this forum. I'd been an Invicta collector and finally purchased my first luxury watch, the original blue wave Omega Bond perpetual. On another forum the discussion came up that the Rolex was really the true Bond watch and that Omega was just buying rights to make it theirs. I started looking into Rolex watches and finally decided I wanted one with the engraved rehaut and modern accoutrements. Found a great deal on a briefly worn OP and that was it. I've been hooked ever since.

June 2018. Walk in Rolex AD and saw DSSD 116660. Was offered 10% off. So I bought it.

In 1982 I purchased a used 5512 which I wore for 8 years and sold. I paid $175 for the head only, and went to Wempe in NYC, where I purchased a NOS replacement band for $135. Wish I still had this watch.

Wow! Bought my first 11/1997 and I was 26 years old. It was a 16610 purchased in Vegas at the forum shops. I still have it and it’s in great shape. Starting to get a little patina but believe it or not, it still has lume

in the early '80s I had a friend that worked at Ben Bridge. I was 19 and they had just "repo" a Pepsi GMT, plastic crystal, from a guy that financed it and couldn't make his payments. I bought it for $900. I put $100 down and paid $50/month. I thought I was spending a lot. I had it for a few years and consigned it at a shop for $1000 net to me. I thought I made a killing wearing that watch for a few years and selling it for a profit!
Wish I still had it, I loved that watch!!

I coveted a Rolex from the instant I first saw one. During the Vietnam era, I served in the US Navy as a Navy Exchange Officer -- which meant, among other things, I ran a store where Navy personnel and their dependents could purchase various items. In addition to the then very popular Omegas, I decided to carry Rolex watches in my store, introducing them with a "Grand Opening Sale". On that first day, the price for a yellow gold/stainless steel Datejust was $1 more than the store's cost; I sold them for just $175.00. In today's dollars, that would be $1,137. Needless to say, I bought one as did several others stationed with me. I regret I could not afford a Day-Date. I offered them that day, I recall, for around $345.00.

I am on my third Datejust (currently an Everose/stainless steel Datejust 41). I have loved them all, though, frankly, none as much as the one I own now.
