Investment/scarcity threads have a bit of rationality to them, whether one appreciates the premise or not.

There’s very little, if anything, redeeming about “is it safe” threads.

Just my two cents....

That’s interesting to me. And I love seeing the different perspective.

But I feel like “is it safe” is actually relevant to the functionality/ability of the watch. Whereas the scarcity is just a lot of complaining.

Those threads always make me want to start a company manufacturing fireproof watch storage cases called "Isit Safe". The SEO hits from TRF alone would be huge. Too bad someone is squatting on isitsafe.com.

while the question in itself has a serious tone to it

even decades ago no one seemed too worried about it

Nope. I ditched the Rolex general discussion forum a long time ago.

I read the rolexforum. Cause the patek subforums have become so sterile.

It’s very rare that I venture in.

But I did recently. And it all seemed to be one topic.

I look at it most days, but rarely see any titles worth opening. It's almost always the same thing.

Dave, our criminals here in the USA may not be quite as organized when it comes to watch crime as in many other places.

Our very narrow focus of watch crime on the forums should not be construed to mean other crimes and violence are not in abundance here in the USA.

I always enjoy a good "Is it safe?" thread, but I really miss BC and his wild threads. Occasionally one of his stories will pop into my head and I'll laugh to myself.

No way. TRF in general has lost a lot of its flavor TBH.

Is it safe to wear my Rolex while surfing TRF? I rarely read the Rolex forum forum. All the cool people hang out here!

I miss the days when there was more participation by true watch enthusiasts. As the saying goes, nothing good lasts forever. I’ve met a lot of people I keep in touch with outside of TRF and am very thankful for the time spent here during those “good ol’ Days”.

Fixed it for you. BC = ref1655. They were very polarizing. Several people picked up infractions interacting with them.

oh i dunno about that. well...could be you have a point as all forums in general lost a bit of their "flavor" once FB and IG got so popular. however when comparing this place with that huge other watch forum i think this forum has a good mix of stuff going on and quite easy to navigate. there is also less clannish-clique crap going on with this site as well, and the moderating staff here seem more even-handed.
