I didn't mind them. However, I found it quite insulting when it was implied that any excursion outside of the USA was a precursor to danger. The fact that the country to be visited had a less crime and murder rate than the US just added salt to the wound.

I apologise if I have inadvertently just got this thread "locked," it was not my intent.

People fear what they don't know. Americans know the US and have become numbed to the dangers here by the constant hum of violent crime stories in the news and on TV dramas. Whereas, other countries are new and uncertain grounds. It doesn't hurt to ask, it only hurts when they phrase the question badly.
