I think it depends on the particular model. I love my TT DJ, but the the DJ is already trending towards "old man watch" by today's standards. In the sport lines, I prefer SS or full PM.

Just picked up my first tt Daytona from DavidSW a few weeks ago I love it and great bang for the buck imo. Also a sucker for some of the new DJ models in tt. I would imagine we'll see a resurgence on tt models eventually but what do I know.

I like SS, TT and PM, depending on the watch. I don't care what other people think about them or who wears them. Why would I?

Certain Rolex TT models are incredible, I don't care what anybody says. I wear what I want to wear. Gold is gold. There's a reason it has been prized and lusted after for millennia. Kings and queens wore gold, the people they sent to die on the battlefield wore and wielded steel.

Despite looking aesthetically great, SS owes much of its popularity to its price point and the fact that the current market is making it more "valuable" than PM.

Let's be honest. Lots of folks want a luxury watch but are not willing to extend themselves for a TT or full PM watch. Younger people who bash TT wish they had the scratch to afford a watch with PM.

When I want to go out to a fancy restaurant or dress it up in the office, I put on the CHNR. I have fielded phone calls at home from co-workers who ask me where I got the Rolex because they didn't want to say anything in public. So there are a lot of TT fans out there.

That to me blows away the SS version any day of the week.
Enjoy!

Two tone being an old peoples watch is a ridiculous premise . . . buy what appeals to you and stop worrying about others think.

When I first started out collecting watches, I never thought I would like a PM watch. My first Rolex was SS Daytona then came the SS GMT2C. 7-8 years later I bought my first YG DD... then TT Sub. Buy what you like...

Mate says “yeah, my buddy is also wearing one, but the SS version!” pointing to my wrist.

Not all covert the SS over the TT., but each to their own.
This says it all.
I bet the general public outside of the forum will pick a TT over a SS anyway. Just for the mere fact it has a PM in it.

The hype about SS is simply because of the scarcity forced by Rolex AND within those of us that are a community on here.

While some TT watches very grandpaish, I think Rolex TTs have a very appealing look to them.

I love TTs and i love SS and i love PM. Hell, i even love rubber. I like what i Like.

I did not have a sway towards two tone but after seeing these two together, originally was looking for all steel. Now I am in the two-tone camp. To me it has to do with the whole package, dial bracelet configuration etc. For example, I love the two tone ceramic sub with black dial but am very opposed to the two tone ceramic GMT. The 2019 datejust 36 is stunning.

Depends on the watch, but Rolex TT is different especially the CHNR and Bluesy. TT is definitely above SS.

The following content is my opinion. There are no intentions to upset or offend anyone. To each their own. Buy whatever you like. That's what is great about collecting watches and fashion. Be yourself.

note: I talk about Yellow Gold but Rose Gold could also apply.

I think any Yellow Gold watch (even SS TTs) get a bad rep for known reasons...

1.) the 1970s stereotype of the Bob Guccione look or that 1980s mafia boss look with a thick YG rope bracelet around the other wrist. Even 1980s and '90s rapper stereotype fit nicely here.

2.) older people like my 73yr old father seem to still love YG. On the flip side (of late), I am seeing younger women wearing yellow gold again.

3.) YG seems to get less popular each passing decade. Reminds me of chrome plated car rims.

4.) Since the late 2000s, styles for jewelry accessories tend to be less flashy - prob why white gold is popular; it resembles SS so it's more subtle.

The bezel and dial colors on the TT watch also obviously matter. Personally, I avoid full Gold or TT watches w/ gold / champagne dials like the plague. Some of those watches look like they are trying to hard to "bling". In my opinion, Jubilee bracelets and precious stones only increase the YG bling factor.

With all that said, I believe wearing a TT watch can look fabulous if done correctly. It's about what clothes you're wearing with it. Skin tone also plays a role. e.g. wearing a TT DJ watch with informal shirts or polo shirts with jeans or shorts might look odd. This is wear a SS sporty watch will shine.

Wearing a TT watch w/ button down short sleeve or long sleeve shirt should look great depending on the clothing and watch colors. ...even with most shades / washes of jeans.

It seems to be easier to match TT sporty models w/ clothing than dressy models like TT DJs.

When in doubt, ask your wife for advice if she's stylish or use google for pics :)

Or is this just a phase? When I purchased my first Rolex I just purchased what I like, now reading the forum posts, I am definitely influenced by the SS bias. Curious to hear what people think of the TT - I've heard "wanna be's", and curious why people do not like them? I always viewed the TT as the classic Rolex.

I think it depends on the model, but I like SS, TT and PM. I don’t think TT look outdated.

Since you were a kid, you some old guy wearing TT. Therefore, some people may think it's old fashioned since Rolesor has been around since the '40's. Some might think it's too much bling, and some may think it's for someone who can't afford the full PM model.

I used to think all of these things when I saw someone wearing TT. Now I don't think it's old fashioned, Now I don't think TT is too blingy, I think it's a separate piece making a statement and it's not trying to be a full PM model. I want one.

I also didn't like diamond dials, now I want one of those too!

TT was very popular in Asia at one point. I have no problems wearing mine. I did get a negative comment on it once but I didn’t think much of it and it had more to do with the brand and size of it. I would buy a TT watch if I found one that I liked. The CHNR being a great example.

I have always loved two-tone watches. As someone who wears an 18k yellow gold wedding ring, I've always struggled with a S/S watch. It just doesn't match in my eyes yet gold and steel look great.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^T ell us how you really feel...…. :) Personally, the thing I like about TT is that the pm gives the watch just a little pizzaz. Some may like a watch to be a little dressy but yet the ss tones it down so it can be super casual as well.
