I've seen more than half a dozen grape dial OP39 for sale on forums for less than $6k, BNIB. It's not that hard to get, no need to play games with the AD.

I’ve had great experiences with Wilson & Son in Scarsdale, NY. Make sure to speak to either Mike or Matt (the owners) and tell them Tim Babit referred you. My suggestion would be to go in person.

Look at David SW, he has one on his site right now. It's New, with plastics in place and it has a warranty date of April 2018.
Most of the time you will save money and tax from the resellers, but lately because product isn't readily available, you may pay close to retail.

Yeah it’s just slightly over retail and since my AD experience isn’t going too well I may just bite the bullet. The only reason I don’t want to is because I also want to purchase a Batgirl and grey prices on those are really high. I figure if I make this purchase the AD may be more inclined to help me out with the Batgirl as well.

Didn’t speak to Mike or Matt but when I did call them they mentioned they hadn’t seen a red grape in over a year. Would you still suggest going in?

I am of the belief that calling and/or emailing is mostly useless. Take the time to go see the dealers in person and you’ll have much better luck.

I have no loyalty to ant AD.
I buy from where the watch is available, and from who gives me a good price.

I don't buy enough for an Ad to do me any favors.

So you would just pay market for a BLNR?

At that time, full retail was the best you could do. Gray was a couple hundred cheaper, but if you bought out of state, you saved the tax which was several hundred better.

If I could find a blnr for up to 2000 over retail I would go for it now. They’re just all around 4-5000 over retail.

I know that sucks. Supply and demand.
I bought an Air King for a little over retail, because the ADbnear me hadn't seen one in months.
The price worked out to be the same as if I did buy it locally and pay the tax.

No complaint, because I have the watch and am wearing it.

Try calling around New Hampshire ADs. Make a road trip out of it and pay no sales tax.

I would. If you can take the ride up, they’re great guys and are excellent to work with. Go in, introduce yourself and strike up a conversation.

I may be wrong, but in NYC it's too much money chasing too many of the same pieces. Unless you've got an IN with an AD or have big bucks, go grey. And I'm an AD guy.

I also like the olive dial OP as well.

I'm in SoCal. Was chatting with an AD in April 2020. I was asking about a simple OP39 for a friend's wedding. Aside from honestly not know when Rolex was shipping again, he said the requests have exploded in the last year. He took out his book of waitlists and shows me the 8 people he has on his OP page, then he says "this is just my book, doesn't include all the other sales reps in here."

crazy times.

Kind of him to actually keep a list. Most ADs don't even keep real lists.

FWIW new rolex (and Tudor) cards don’t have names on them. Agree w others here, if DavidSW (or any other TS) has a new one , just buy from them. You’ll get it in 24 hours with zero hassel. You can ask David If the one he has now has the name
On the card filled out , and If not you can just write yours in.

Just a friendly reflection here. Your original post kind of complains about the AD / “boutique experience,” but here you say you want the “boutique experience.”

Well, you’re getting it and it isn’t good. Begging for a watch while they play hard to get. It’s no fun. When you actually get a watch from an AD it’s generally pretty uneventful (I’ve always found).

The buying experience is much better from a gray dealer. MUCH. Instant gratification in all its glory. Delivered to your door.

The only normal difference is cost. But in this case you’re in luck. The price difference is pretty negligible. You save so much time just getting this watch from a gray dealer. Super easy. Just get it done.

I can see jockeying at the AD when the difference is $1000s, but here it seems like a no brainer

I bought two from and sold two to David.
He's aces as far as re-seller goes, and mine were both new with plastics and in warranty.
