SD 16600
as a boy I saw many divers (Doxa Tissot Omega Bulova) but my dream ... and of all ... was the Submariner Rolex.
My first Rolex 14060 replaced after a while by the Sea Dweller 16600 which is my absolute favorite.

In short, for me no.

I always loved the Daytona but I sold mine after a few years of ownership because at the time it had lost most of the appeal. Now I like the ceramic WG a lot but it's an impossible target for me so I cannot even "desire" it so to speak.

I also really like the blue Sky Dweller but I actually never saw one in the metal and it's just another unreachable target that makes it some kind of a "grail" so to speak. Same thing can be said for the GMT BLRO.

The fact that it's basically impossible to get the pieces I like from an AD leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when I think of the brand nowadays.

A small anecdote: I was at my AD last Saturday, patiently waiting to be served as the owner and the other SA were busy with to other customers. The first one, who was speaking in a very confidential tone with the owner, had just paid a few thousand euros for a service of a couple of pieces and casually asked to look at some sports models, with the clear intention of paying immediately: the owner simply answered he had none at all and the models on display were already spoken for. He had lots of Panerai, Cartier, and Omega pieces available were he interested.

When it was my turn i just asked to try on a Cartier Santos XL, immediately available in white and in blue in just a couple of months, with a 15% discount. Lovely watch, possibly my next target if I'm able to convince myself to pay a substantial amount of money for a second choice.

Yes!
I always wanted explorer in 36, but I'm not into used and dinged or worn 20 year old watches, so I never cared to buy the older refs. But now rolex gave us a new 36mm and I finally got my dream fulfilled

For me I always thought about the 16610. Saw it on older men's wrists and thought it was awesome. I still think it's the best looking piece despite wishing I was WIS enough to like something less common, and despite the "improvements" on later versions.

Alternatively, anyone always loved a certain watch since they were younger, and then later something else turned out to be your favorite? What was it?

Hoping for some interesting responses!

Don’t blame you on the 16610, my first Rolex bought new on 1995 and still my favorite. This thread needs more pictures!!

Ever since I started having an interest in watches, the Submariner was the reference that drew me to Rolex. The Sub (and other divers) still remain my favorite.

The Daytona was always what I wanted, but the Submariner is my current favourite as it is simpler. Less is more.

Always wanted a Datejust with baton markers since I was a kid. The watch with the sticks and bubble. That was the watch I always associated the most with Rolex. I've had three so far and still love them but this forum opened up my eyes to the sports collections and my SD43 has become my favorite Rolex. Tastes keep changing but I've never gone without a Datejust in my collection. Other than a possible move up to a Day Date I suspect I will always have one.

I've always been a chronograph guy and I used to picture myself with a Daytona when I was a teenager. Still waiting...

Not sure about "always" but for the past decade I've wished I had an Explorer I 36mm and had bought one when they were available from AD. Over the years I tried the 39 (too big), and considered various 36mm pieces (last-gen OP 36; current DJ 36; current OP 36) but none sang to me enough. Then the new Exp. 36 came out and I just knew.

As a teenager I'll say I was always drawn to the 40mm Professional watches, like the Sub and Coke, but I've tended towards less recognizable pieces over the years.

In my case no, as Rolex only started making what ended up being my favorite Rolex very recently. I have big wrists and could thus never bring myself to purchase the Submariner I wanted because it just looks too small on me. Finally not Rolex came out with the SD 43 a few years ago and that is really "my" watch, it looks like a Sub, which I like, but is in a size that looks good on my wrist, which I also like. But then, it is not a Sub, which would have been the watch that had been on my mind all this time.

I've always wanted a Day-Date but I have yet to own one. Perhaps when I'm a bit older, I just can't see myself wearing such a gorgeous watch on a daily basis, at least doing what I do daily now.

Always wanted a Sub and prefer the pre-maxi case versions. First Rolex was a 14060M which is also the only Rolex I've kept hold of. There is no other Rolex I would have over it.

No. As a kid the watch I wanted was a TT Breitling Chronomat. I eventually bought it (when I was 18) but sold it a long time ago.

The Rolex I always wanted, which I first became properly aware of in my mid to late teens, was the (at the time) brand new out 16610LN Sub. I bought one a few years later, and then a 16610LV, but both are long sold. I now have a 116610LN (which will never be sold), but my all time favourite is my 116710BLNR.

I've wanted a GMT-Master since I enlisted in the Air Force sixty years ago (May 8, 1961). My first Rolex was a 1675, and now 95% of the time I wear a 16710 with multiple bezel inserts.

I've always wanted the Sea-Dweller since I was a teenager. To me the SD43 is the best looking SD ever.

I have one watch and it’s the only one I want. Does not leave my wrist.

Had the chance to ask for several models at AD, including the most popular ones (yes, also Daytona was to be arranged).

To this day happy and om honeymoon with my CHNR! Only one I need.

Is your current favorite Rolex the one you've always wanted?

Yep. Wanted a BLRO since 1984. I did a lot of research when I finally decided to get one and narrowed down the exact model I wanted. I was shocked at the GMT Master's history and how long its been around. I do love a good back story!

Rolex was the first brand of watch that I was aware of. As a child as both my father and godfather wore 1803s in yellow gold and white gold respectively. I have the 118239 now and I do love it, but not more than my sports models.

Yes. The Rolex submariner was the first watch I truly wanted from seeing it in National Geographic. I’ve gone through a number of Subs and SeaDwellers since the early 90’s and finally landed on the 124060. It’s darn near perfect IMHO.

Always wanted a sub date, got it (126610LN), but my favorite is easily the new Explorer 124270.

I don't think it's infatuation either. The more I go out and about, watch spotting, the more I like having an awesome subtle steel sports rolex that wears so well. This feeling won't get old, while a bling or flashy sports piece... yeah you need a break every now and then.

Yellow Gold Day Date 36 with white dial & gold Roman numerals.

Went in to a local AD on 1/3/21, looking at TT DJ & tried on a DD. Thought about it for a couple weeks, decided I love the Day Date & DavidSW found me a new one....been wearing it for the last 2 weeks.

I wanted a Sub for several decades, and when I finally reached a point where I was financially comfortable enough to purchase such a watch, I did. I had a pay a premium to get it and I was okay with that.

There are other models I would love, but the Sub is what I really wanted, and it has met and exceeded all my expectations. I wear it every day and it makes me happy. I worked really hard to get it. If it is the last watch I ever purchase, I am perfectly content with that.

Perhaps when I retire though, maybe there is a meteorite BLRO that will fall from the heavens? (I got to try one on and just...wow!)

The rolex pepsi oyster was the only watch i ever said to myself "i must have that". It was the grail watch. Strangely after i got it, satisfied as i was, it no longer feels as special as before.
It's true what they say, people want what they cannot get.

Yes, my 116520 is what I always wanted. My daily.

Saw one in 2000 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and that was it.

No other model really interested me, all I want now is a current 116503 TT and a black index 116500
