Firstly, ad hominem attacks are unnecessary. I wasn’t singling you out, merely opening discussion. If you’ve taken offence where none was intended, I apologise. If you don’t want to engage positively after that, that’s your prerogative.

Secondly, I may be fairly new here, but I’ve spent 20+ years on forums and they all operate on a combination of shared knowledge and opinion. Opinion is fine and all, but difficult to judge without open sharing of knowledge and therefore much less useful. This forum’s dynamic in that regard is unusual. As an example of what I’m talking about re. Opinion and knowledge, someone on a watch Facebook group highlighted another poster’s watch as fake. It wasn’t, and a few people, including me pointed out why it was real (using the research I’m accused of being unable or unwilling to do), but most people’s opinion was that it was fake. They couldn’t back that up because they didn’t have the knowledge, but I’d expect it was a tense few hours for the OP.

Thirdly, I’m interested because when I have a hobby, be it cars, music, whatever, I want to learn more about that hobby. It’s not my watch, but detail about why people think it isn’t right helps me in learning what to look for when I’m buying.

Finally, if I used Harry’s earlier post as an example of a post that wasn’t helpful, in my opinion, then the last two are excellent examples of useful information that I will remember and put to use.

I posted non directed statements and got a rude, directed, snide reply back. I'd say that was ad hominem. Anyway, I said my piece, I didn't intend offence but you took it and aren't moving beyond it so I'll leave it there.
