I don’t think it’s a no-brainer but I probably would make this trade too. Especially, if you feel you will always be thinking of a BLRO while looking at your BLNR.

As nice as the BLNR is......the only reason it exists was because they couldn't make a ceramic bezel in blue and red at the time. (quoted from a prior comment, made an error)

While I understand this point, I don't necessarily think it's fair to minimize the BLNR in this way. Although I prefer the BLRO, I think the BLNR is a nice fresh take on a classic watch. If rolex simply kept upgrading their original designs without adding anything new, it would be a much more boring company than it already kind of is.

Even if the BLNR came to be out of necessity for the time, for convenience, or by mistake, I think it's very nice and deserves the respect it gets.

At the very least, the BLNR is the first bi-colour ceramic bezel rolex has made. That's something!

That's correct. It will be very easy to source a jubilee for the switch.

I’d do it simply because I like the BLRO that much more. YMMV.

As someone who has both, personally I wouldn’t pay 5k extra for some red and that not as nice blue.

5K is a lot to pay for the same watch with a different color bezel and dial details .

OP, I’ll take the BLRO over the BLNR any day, and the oyster is a must. Only you can decide if it’s worth $5,000.

Negative ghost rider.

This from a BLRO owner. Personally wouldn’t trade a watch I’ve owned for years for a similar watch and add cash on top of that...

I would do it. The grey market price between a brand new BLNR and an equally new BLRO is 5k anyways. You’re trading an older watch, possibly up to 7 years old (when the 116 was introduced) so you’re getting a pretty good deal actually, the newer variant has more power reserve to boot.

Also the new oYster BLNR/BLRO qualifies for the Rolex OEM jubilee for around 2k, so I’d also get the jubilee from Rolex and then you have both bracelet variants for an extra 7k total.

Do it!

There's no way on earth I'd do that swap. Not in a million years.

The 116710BLNR has a proper black and blue bezel, not a sort-of-red and sort-of-blue bezel, plus the BLNR was the first one-piece/two-tone ceramic bezel ever made, which makes it special IMO.

And lastly (as mentioned by others), the 116710 has the tried and tested 3186, while the 126710 has the sometimes problem-ridden 3285. I won't touch another 32xx myself, so that's reason enough to avoid the BLRO AFAIC.

I'd do it, but then I'm not a fan of the BLNR (on my wrist)

Financially it works.

The only downside is the movement issue - but you've got the best part of 5 years warranty left with the BLRO and if you have problems you could get it fixed under warranty and then sell it on - and you'll probably still be ahead financially.

Its a no brainer for me.

I like the BLRO much better, but would not add 5K. Be patient and try to source one at retail fi possible.

I voted keep the BLNR, for all the reasons stated above plus the blue looks so good in jeans being I have a tendency of wearing mine the most out of the weekly rotation.

This last point is very important from a collectibility perspective. In the future, I think collectors will recognize the importance of the 116710blnr’s standing as the first bi-color ceramic bezel watch Rolex made. For that reason I wouldn’t do the trade.

Unless you love the BLRO, I wouldn’t do the trade as there is a good chance that in the future, your friend would have to give you $5k (or more) to make this trade happen.

Although it is the first bi-colour bezel rolex has made, I do not think the market will really care about that in the future. The first ceramic bezel watch isn't really trading for a massive premium compared to other GMTs, and collectors don't really seem to care about what the date function on the sub did to propel rolex to the next level of wide spread sport watch adoption.

I think it is a nice little factoid, but I do not think it will really impact the premium down the road. Modern collectors only seem to want whatever was closest to the original release first and foremost.
