3 watches and done, what do you think?
I think I could get by with a Submariner and Datejust plus an Apple Watch, but I have a couple Omegas sprinkled in there too. Not planning on downsizing anytime soon, if ever…

I have a 36 DJ 126234. Thinking of picking up the BB54. After that not sure. Maybe a two tone. But I think I’ll be content for a while (at least a few weeks)

I have 6 currently. I find that without a variety I start to “want”. Right now I have all bases covered:
Speedy (reverse panda racing 40mm) Sub Date 116610LN BB58 black and the blue for a color option BB Pro for a GMT option Explorer 114270 Unfortunately when I had a Seiko “beater” I just never wore it, with so many other great options I just couldn’t…. Anyway, I think a piece +beater collection is great in theory but it’s probably a hard sell on a collector forum lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I could probably live with 3, but I definitely won’t.

3 is definitely a doable number for me personally, but 5-8 is my preferred comfort number. If your three make you happy/content…no matter the models/brands, then you’re good!

In too deep! But if 3 is your thing, go for it. As others have said, the "chase" is both exhausting, but exhilarating at the same time.

Most people have 1 really nice watch. Some people collect hundreds. Totally up to you. I think there’s nothing wrong with having a large collection as long as you’re wealthy and you enjoy it. It’s certainly a bad investment and an expensive hobby.
My goal is to have a solid varied collection of about 8 pieces. Variety of model lines and color variations and styles. And maybe one day a couple left field options like a dress watch or spring drive or something. I already have a plan for the next 10 years though so I’m steady on the course.

After getting up to 6 Omega watches and 2 Tag Heuer re-edition watches, I made the move to Rolex watches. Got up to 6 Rolex watches and now heading down to 3 or 4. Currently completing the sale of the all Arabic face DJ I have listed in my signature and my full jubilee DJ is currently on the market. Rolex makes it easier for me, as they have a smaller number of watches that I want versus Omega. That helps to police me.
Over the course of the year, this rotation number works out well for me when I want to put on a different watch after a handful of months.

What do I think?
I think it's a theory, and an untested one, at that. You're in the honeymoon phase with the polar. Relax and enjoy it...but don't make any moves just yet. |

I have far too many watches currently, so I'm planning to get it down to probably between 4 and 8 in total.
Some watches I've clearly not worn in a couple of years, so I'm not sure why I'm keeping them.

Some of us have the collected "OCD" gene, where it goes way beyond practical or rational. You see it in other hobbies as well, wine, art, guitars, cars, whatever. Even 3 watches is well past practical. But these hobbies are not about being practical. For me the passion and the hunt for the next watch is a big part of the hobby. I guess if one day that passion and excitement fade I'll stop.

Admittedly, I am not a collector. I am marvelled by watches in general and love "wearing" those which have that something special in my eyes.
I found out there were pieces I hardly ever wore, since I tend to wear them for longer streaks (rather than a daily rotation). So I too decided to trim my collection down to three plus a disposable. In my case, at the moment: Cartier Ronde (suit), Panerai 560 (beach), Rolex Explorer II Polar (daily) + Apple Watch for those times when I need something disposable. I have difficulties ENJOYING more than three at a time, even though that does not mean I stop being interested and "aware of my surroundings" (in case I fall in love with something else). |

3 Watches
In many ways, three watches is a perfect number but there is always that other watch that may be out there at sone point. I currently have 3 Rolex watches and would consider one more Rolex in the future. I plan to add one beater watch also but that will be it for me, hopefully!!!

Bought, sold and traded thru the years. My sweet spot is 4:
BLRO Polar ExplorerII SD43 Blue dial Sky-Dweller on Oyster. Not interested in anymore Rolex. Covers all the bases. Ticks all the boxes. If I went down to three I would move the SD43--and I'm not doing that. |

I like three, I think it hits the sweet spot. Right now I have four, plus my two dress watches a PP and AP.

I think, like many, 3 + beater is more than fine.
Personally I'm not a fan of either explorer but many do like/love them. If I were to go with 3 pieces I would try to cover as many bases as possible; Maybe daily/work watch, weekend watch, and special occasions watch. I dont think there is a better weekend watch than a sub or a seadweller. If you prefer the kermit over the seadweller i think thats 100% fine. For a daily I think a pepsi on jubilee is unbeatable. But a polar explorer 2 is fine as well. Finally for a special occasion i'd want something more "special". Maybe a fluted bezel... maybe precious metal. Not sure what I would pick. If I went with 3 watches, that's probably how I would do it.
