I wear a suit for work each day and always felt my SS GMT looked a bit out of place so I changed it to a 116713LN and I feel much better now.

Got my wedding suit made to measure and a custom shirt as well. The tailor made the shirts’ wrist opening on my non dominant hand a little bit bigger to accompany a watch— as he does with all his suits. It wouldn’t come close to closing with my sub on. But it did with my thin style seiko dress watch.
I guess point of the story is that according to classic tailoring, only the thinnest of dress watches would be permissible. As well as only two hands on the watch face and no numbers, from what I’ve read. But I’m kind of in the wear what you want category. |

Watch looks great, pocket square good - you look nice any tidy.
In all honestly, I liked the grey suit/white shirt combo better. The black on black feels monochromatic, forcing my eyes to see three things: watch, tie, and square. I guess it depends are you going into the office or or out to a nightclub? The first ensemble is definitely better for the office. The black on black screams nightclub. Mens dress shoes have: 1. Whole cut, Plain, Cap or Wingip ends. 2. Closed lace (Oxford), open lace (Derby), Monks strap or Loafer to fasten. 3. All can have broguing (decorative perforations in semi, quarter, half or full) 5. Soles are attached with either a Goodyear welt, Blake stitch or Norwegian welt. Good rule of thumb is: Black tie = Whole cut Oxford in patent. Work Suit = Oxford cap with a goodyear welt. Casual = Quarter cap or wing tip brogued Derby. A couple more points: 1. Always make sure your jacket collar is the same width as your tie. 2. You can tell a good suit because the cuff buttons can be un-done, and are not just sewn on. |

Sub and suit.
Quote:
Pascal, Watch looks great in that picture. I think the RubberB on looks great but for your TT Sub the bracelet works better with a suit. Those saying you should only wear a dress watch with a suit need to understand that it's not about the suit, it's about the circumstance in which the suit is worn. Sports watches with a suit for the office or a course such as you are on are totally fine. In a more formal setting you could argue that a more dressy watch would be a more appropriate choice not in 2017 it's really not that important. Class isn't what you wear. It's how you act and conduct yourself. Couple of observations on your pic. Burberry tie is an absolute no - no with a black shirt and tie. In fact, Burberry should only be worn as a raincoat lining. And that should be law. And your pocket square should ideally match your tie - if you must have the pocket square. I'd lose that for day wear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looking good with the adjustments! I personally find the sub on bracelet to make a much better pairing/complement with the suit than a sub on rubber. The rubber on the watch makes it feel a lot more sporty imo.

Jaime, I haven't, but think it will be too much for me as the SS Brick was already at my limit, I prefer the straps with ROOs.

I think the OP is looking for permission to wear a favored watch rather than determine what is appropriate dress. If an event is formal enough to require a suit, then dressing appropriately means a dress watch, not a sports watch.
A sports watch calls attention to itself with its size and color and busy nature of the dial. A dress watch is discreet and unobtrusive. With a dress watch, the focus is on the wearer, not what he is wearing. With a Rolex Sub, it is going to be on the watch. It all depends on what you want to project - yourself or your watch. Do you want to project confidence, competence, fitting in with others, not calling attention to yourself? Then you should decide whether you want the attention on you or a big, flashy watch. |

If Rolex is marketing it with a suit, I’m sure it is just fine. I know purist would disagree here but I’m somewhere in between. I wear my DJ41 with a suite

C'mon. Advertising is about evoking emotion, not adhering to style guidelines. The point of that advertisement is to link an image of one's self as wealthy, successful and powerful to the product they want you to buy.
Daniel Craig wears a sports watch with a tux not because it fits style or fashion guidelines but because he is paid to do it. https://www.gq.com/story/watch-style-casual |

However, disagree on matching the pocket square with tie. I would avoid any kind of PS matching. Coordinating is fine (like the OP did), matching is not advised. Can't go wrong with plain white with TV fold....or none at all. |

Actually agree on the pocket square. I should have more correctly said "complement" rather than the absolute interpretation of match Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was just being facetious. That's a quote from the Kingsmen movie. The way I interpreted it was that brogue styling on shoes calls attention to the shoes and is inappropriate for a suit, where a more discreet look is being projected. Same as wearing a Sub - if you want to look quietly elegant, leave the Sub at home as it draws attention to yourself.
But my assumption is that if one is wearing a suit, one does not want to look flashy. Maybe I'm out of fashion these days. I grew up in a much more traditional time period. |

I kind of see your point with the Burberry tie and black shirt and Burberry in general unless we are talking raincoat liners. Even though I like a plaid tie from time to time. But your pocket silk matching your tie comment is where I spit my morning tea out. Matching tie and pocket silk ranks right up there with wearing belts with braces, brown belts with black shoes, and gents having ties and cummerbunds matching their wives dresses in formal wear:) It just isn't done by someone who truly understands the nuances and history gentleman's clothing. Sorry I digress....this is a watch forum not a fashion forum. |

Sure , I have worn a Sub with a suit to many media and formal events. So does/did many others at those events and some of these folks were top on our industry owning media and publishing companies. A Rolex Sub is such a icon, it is it’s own fashion statement. Anyone want to tell a lady her 4 carat diamond diamond earrings are too sporty for a formal event?? Perhaps the Porsche 911 they drove up to the event in is too sporty and ostentatious??

The fact that people have done and will do something is not really an point in favor of an opinion. That you mention that a Rolex Sub is its own fashion statement illustrates the point I was making, though. The focus is on the watch at that point. I don't think that serves to project an image of quiet elegance. It says "look at me", the exact opposite. The fact that people are noticing others wearing Subs at formal affairs is exactly what I'm talking about. Dressing in a way to call attention to one's self is not an image I believe is appropriate in situation calling for more formal attire. But as I said, I'm a traditionalist. |

Guys, lay off the Burberry. It's one of our best homegrown brands. Tudor and Burberry, I've never felt so English, what what.
