Sub and suit.
Hello fellow TRF member
I know this has been discussed many times before but I just wonder what watch connaisseurs think about this example. To be fair, I don't wear a suit daily but sometimes I do and I have a few of them in my closet. I used to wear them with a "cheeper" dress watch. Besides, James Bond is an example for me and since he has worn a sub I thought this would be my little wink to that. Personally, I think it's hot and my wife...well...she doesn't care that much lol So...I open this thread for some more self-awareness... What do you think or ? |

Personally I'd be happier if it fit better under your cuff. Might actually be better on a bracelet?
Definitely not my first choice. |

I think that combo looks great. Subs go great with suits (I was wearing a similar combo today -- SD4K on bracelet + suit).
I like it on the rubber strap too - does give it a bit more "strap" type watch feel rather than the 2-tone bracelet. I say this is a big thumbs up. To me it clearly fits under your cuff as well , but you just hve it like this for photos. |

Purists will definitely say no but it’s worked for me. Pic from my youngest daughters wedding as I’m giving her away...

I think a Sub works with a suit although to be fair, not as well as a dress watch.
With your unbuttoned top button and devil may care, rapscallion look - it fits perfectly. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

But I'm not a fan of the rubber with the suit, I'd put out back on stainless.

It’d look much better on the bracelet.

If I could only answer thumbs up or down I go with up. A sub can certainly be worn with a suit (but can be done in a way that makes it stand out and not in a positive way)...
I love switching to natos or rubber watch bands myself, but, with a suit I think the bracelet works best. Particularly for such a sporty watch. Also, I’m not sure if you intended to leave the collar wide open or if you are still getting dressed. It appears you’ve got two sets of buttons undone while wearing a tie. This doesn’t look right to me and in combination with the rubber strap on a two tone sport watch and the rather prominent pocket square I get the sense that you are trying pretty hard. Button up, stuff the square a bit, and put the bracelet back on and you’ll look the nines. Anyway that’s my feedback since you mentioned self awareness! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

it is not the most appropriate. It's better a Datejust or a Cellini

There's generally three schools of thought:
1. wear what you like 2. a watch worn with a suit should be a dress watch and should be on a strap. 3. Tuxedo, no watch I don't own a suit or a tux, so I can't be of much help |

With that generous pocket square and roguishly undone top button, i’d likely not notice whatever you had lashed to your wrist...
But sure, why not. I wore my explorer with suit to the Marine Birthday Ball this weekend, Amongst the Suunto and GShocks it appeared relatively sublime... |

Sub and suit is a great combo. It also looks fine on rubber and it is not a coincidence Rolex is using rubber on some Daytonas. I prefer my watches on bracelet though although the rubber on the TT Sub makes it quieter and more under the radar.

No no no, I'm sorry. Massive clash IMHO. The watch looks great on that rubber strap by the way.
But of course wear what you like and makes you happy. |

I have a Cyma dress watch I usually wear with my suit on Sunday (I am a Methodist pastor). However, I have worn my Tudor Submariner with a suit and see nothing wrong though purists will.
Wear what you like.

Looks great to me! I love the Sub and think it looks really nice with a suit! Do keep in mind this is coming from someone who wears the same thing for over 10 years even as it ages!

Couldn't close the top button while getting dressed... No, it's actually ok. Had to force it a bit. Looks way cleaner. Thank you. |

On the bracelet, yes. Doesn't work quite as well on rubber.

A sports watch, especially one as bulky as a Sub, is not appropriate for a suit. James Bond can pull it off but not many people are James Bond. It is like wearing a black tuxedo with brown shoes.
Your clothing for the event determines the watch worn. Blazer - sports watch is OK. Suit - dress watch. Tux - no watch at all or maybe a pocket watch. A dress watch is a two or three hander, no other complications. No date, no rotating bezel, no GMT function, no stopwatch function, no funky colors on the hands. Size matters as well - a dress watch is not a big watch, it is 39 mm or less (the way ALL watches used to be before the current trend towards pie plates on a wrist) and thin. Leather strap. Anything where you don't wear a jacket - sports watch is fine. Edit - I had put something about at least changing out the strap but really, wearing a Sub just isn't appropriate for a situation where you wear a suit. Just an opinion from someone on the Internet. Take it for what it is worth. |

Looks much better on a bracelet IMO, and fits better under the cuff. Rubber straps are often less flexible than the linked bracelet, and don't fit as well to the wrist. {Obviously there are exceptions, such as the Patek Aquanaut, but that was a watch designed for a rubber strap.} For a more casual, less sophisticated, look it really doesn't matter- perhaps that's what the OP is after. And finally Tim, with such a georgous bride, I doubt anyone was looking at your watch! Your son-in-law is one lucky man! |

The Sub would look much better on the bracelet. However, that’s not your biggest problem, you need to button up your shirt and lose the pocket square.

Why not. I personally wore SS Sub C as my everyday watch for 6 years including suit and ties.
Then moved to 44 Pams While rubber or nato may not be the best choice ( again only my personal point of view) brancelet or leather strap should be fine. Enjoy! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk |

Looks good, I prefer a bracelet but the black strap actually brings out the gold more. I'd probably have a black and gold pocket square and tie just to complete the ensemble. Or matching cufflinks.

Why not, but a dress watch would be more appropriate.
