I was very excited for the SD43 when I saw the photos...I have a slim 6.75" wrist so knew I would need to see and try on in person, did so at the Panama airport during a layover where they had one and it felt like wearing a hockey puck. Easily fell out of love as it was (Larry David voice) 'yuge!'
Great watch, just did not work for me.
I do think that the 2017 SD43 is a decent speculative buy as it is both the first year of release will be the only year without the new coronet under the 6 like all new models have.

I also have a 6.75 wrist. YUGE. It wore heavier than the panerai 1950 case

First time I heard this about the old coronet. Can someone elaborate?

I had two Deep sea's, I have a non date sub C and an LV and I have an SD43 on order, banking on this being the one!

The models released at Basel this year have the crown in between “Swiss” and “made” at the bottom of the watch. Some are speculating that will transfer for all models built in 2018 but it’s just a rumor at this point. The website still has the watch shown without the crown at the bottom of the dial.

All 2018 Rolex featured from Basel have a new logo/crown between SWISS and MADE below the 6 o'clock; the first year release 2017 SD43 will not have this and its omission will be a cue for us looking for details to note about the first year SD43's.
Note: I am assuming all 2018 Rolex will show this new coronet; Basel coverage was on new stuff which all featured it, but I haven't seen any coverage on non-new or updated models, but my betting-mans-guess is that it's universal on 2018 Rolex.

I'd look at a 116600 if I were you, just throwing it out there. 40mm, slightly taller, more wrist presence, matte dial, no cyclops. I love it. And yes, 3mm and 4mm does make a huge diff to the overall look of these watches.
I'm a newbie and looking to upgrade my watch to a Rolex and found this thread. It's been awhile since someone posted on it, so hope that's ok.
My question is the 116600 model that is mentioned here is coming up as the Sea Dweller when I was looking for it, but the description of 40mm is of the Sub. I'm I understanding this correctly?

Both models, the 116600 and the Sub are 40mm. The sea dweller that was announced in 2017 (126600) got bumped up to 43mm, putting the most current references at 40mm, 43mm, 44mm (Sub/SD/DSSD) respectively.
