Absolutely... unless they DO want to kill the slow selling (albeit wonderfull) Smurf?

You do not but many and big many other do give a ... And WG Smurf is something unique in Rolex portfolio, completely different to any other sub.

You mean like a YG green dial day date? Now this sounds more interesting, indeed...

Smurf blue not for me .It will be chased into 2 to 2.5x MRSP though, that's for sure.......The von Grey family cant wait !!

I dont think they will use the sunburst dial on ss or wg versions. Will be kept for TT and YG .Perhaps a darker flat blue ? That would look good .

Rolex don't do what you want, they do what they do .That's why they are so successful .Ironic.

Everybody chases ss because the pm models are out of reach for most.

I think a ss Sub Red is more likely .Slight changes to case and bracelet .New movement perhaps.

I would be in except they will sell them all to gray dealers and they will jack up the price too close to PM just like the BLRO so I wouldn’t actually buy one.

More than stockmarkets effect a smurfie ss Sub will have a greater effect on BLNR and BLRO going up or down ...

I think the Pepsi GMT in SS put a big damper on sales of the gold model which never was a good seller anyway. To create an identical blue dial sub in SS would do the exact to the current WG Sub. I think Rolex wants the WG Sub to remain in the line so a SS version would be something other than blue in my view.

I would sell both of my kidneys for a SS steel smurf. Then again I should probably aim for the white gold one for both of them.

I would definitely jump on a SS Smurf. But only if it had the same flat blue dial. Not a fan of sunburst.

To each his own. Me, I would go ahead only and if blue is sunburst. Flat blue Smurf is a no like to me at all.

Agreed. Once I go PM it’s hard to go back to SS. And the shine of the metal is different too. Not a fan of pt sub though. Sub is already big and heavy in gold.

And offer it as a no-date, then I'd be in.

What would be Rolex's motive for this? Are they having a problem selling the bezels and dials? Do they need more Sub sales? Do they need to frustrate WG owners? While they're at it the might as well put the Playtona dial and bezel on a SS Daytona. I can't see a sub with enough changes from WG to SS that would allow for two distinct models. For the BLRO they changed bracelets; I guess they could put an OF on the sub in SS. That might make for greater profit on the pieces.

They weren't having a problem selling GMTs, either, but they did release new versions with new movements, and had no problem frustrating WG owners in the process.

What Rolex does need is to keep moving forward. It's true that they're not having a problem selling their sports models, but without forward progress (as in, updating a 30-plus year old movement design), eventually it would start to look like they're resting on their laurels and not living up to their reputation, much as it started to look when they were still making tuna-can bracelets while brands like Breitling and Panerai were running circles around them in that department. So they will be moving forward with the new movement, and it only stands to reason they will be releasing something visually new when they do it. A blue-on-steel Sub that has a different hue, and is therefore visually distinctive from the Smurf, is a plausible way they could go, though hardly a sure thing.

I do not like that. Too much contrast. The Smurf is much more pleasing.
