I say go for it! You’re no stranger to PM and this is a unique and beautiful piece.

I lusted after the 116719 when they were 24-25k but now I personally can’t justify it. I would have to sell a couple pieces and right now like variety. Maybe someday....

So, John......

......what's the latest? Were you able to source the watch?

I was intrigued by this thread b/c I recently found out that I will be able to get this very watch with the meteorite dial, if I so desire. I just haven't seen the dial in person, but have a feeling I would really like it.

I had one on my wrist over the weekend and have to say in the flesh I prefer my Black dial version!

The Meteroite dial just didn't sing to me seeing it in the flesh being honest.

The latest is that the AD in my area does not know if or when they will get one. so I asked a Trusted Seller to try to source one. Not easy as you can imagine. I am in waiting mode.

You know the drill, get the one you really want or you’ll never be satisfied. Get the WG over the SS, not sure where you stand with the PP.

A like new pre-owned Patek Travel TIme is going for 65K and a slightly more pre-owned is 57K. And I am not in love with that Patek aquanaut to be honest. I think I will go for the Pepsi.

Well, you'll know it's the perfect watch if you can't source one!

(I'm sure you will....)

Good to hear. Was it hard to read? And as a preface, I'm someone who gets annoyed with how tough it is to read daytona dials (and I've had both 116500's as well as the RG on OF).

So if it is tough to read -- especially in lower light conditions-- I know it will annoy me.

To be perfectly honest, it makes no sense to spend thousands of dollars on any watch, not when we have smartphones and quartz watches.

But as a fellow WIS, I know exactly where you're coming from! So I'd say buying a WG meteorite Pepsi is the right way to go - it's a much more robust and handsome watch that the Patek.

Yes I found it was hard to read.

John, I seem to recall you moving away from the Platona to the Smurf for legibility reasons.

I'll be the first to admit I have no idea how legible the meteorite version is, but perhaps you might want to look at the blue dial? Just a thought.

I'm confident this meteorite dial is going to be more rare then people originally thought. And yes I'm using the word rare to truly describe the availability of this watch.

Good luck my friend, hopefully you and i can both get one!

My thoughts also. Only seen the watch in pics but the hour plots and hands do not seem to have much contrast to the meteorite dial itself. Maybe in the flesh it is different.

It is a good point. My only hesitation is that I have a Smurf and having two dials with the same blue may be too similar, I would prefer to have the two watches somewhat different.

I’d say buying a Rolex in general is a silly, frivolous affair. It won’t be as durable or keep time as well as a g shock, and if one did truly have a need for a mechanical watch, the reliability and accuracy relative to a Seiko entry level diver probably isn’t worth the the multiples one would pay for the Rolex.

Yet here we all are, having made the choice to buy a Rolex (or two) for reasons important enough us.

To your question, John, if you want it and can afford it, why wouldn’t you?

I would have no reservations about buying a WG Pepsi because a SS Pepsi exists . No concerns there, and I also prefer the WG meteorite over that Patek too. Just barely though.

My only concern for you, is redundancy in having this WG Pepsi AND the WG Sub. Personally, I would not want more than one WG sports watch in my collection. I roll with a 5 or less collecting tough. If your collection goes deeper, I would be less concerned.

Either way, the meteorite looks to be a very special watch.

You make a good point. Ultimately the wife has to approve and if she thinks the Pepsi and Smurf look alike, then I'll probably get a Patek, maybe the 5534 Travel Time pilot's watch, which looks to have the same GMT functionality as the Aquanaut 5164A but more obtainable.

Rolex meteorite dials are one of their most special offerings. My wife is still kicking herself for not getting a Lady DJ with meteorite dial several years ago. Even those don't come up too often, though it would be relatively easy to source compared to the WG Pepsi variant. I really like the DD40 meteorite dial as well. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I’m a Rolex guy through and through. But I’d go with Patek. PP are in their own league.

I would recommend the WG Pepsi hands down. You will not regret it. Black dial version is great and I love the weight of the watch. Most people thought was SS which was nice. like the stealth look of WG. You can definitely get one for $31k range. The blue is nice but only at retail.
