Does it make sense to buy WG Pepsi?

As I posted on the Patek forum, I am trying to decide between the WG Pepsi with meteorite dial and the Patek 5164A Travel Time.

I think the Patek is more useful as a GMT, but as I don't travel very much and the Pepsi meteorite is far more attractive, I am now leaning towards the Pepsi. I don't need help deciding.

My question: am I crazy buying a WG Pepsi instead of a steel one, which even at grey prices is much less expensive? FYI, I can afford the WG Pepsi, but I don't want to throw money away.

One more thing: I only like jubilee bracelets on Datejusts. Don't know why, it is the way I am wired.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like you want the wg pepsi! You like the watch, it does what you need and you have the money...

One vote for the meteorite GMT. It is more beautiful in my eyes.

What about picking up a SS Pepsi and putting a Glidelock oyster on it? Best of both worlds.

That said, the meteorite dial is amazing.

For what it’s worth: the average price of WG GMT II black dial rose 30% in the past few years on Chrono24

Obviously not able to predict the future on the still produced meteorite dial. Black dial is rare one as it’s already discontinued.
GMT is also a very robust watch, not so sure about Patek in this regard.
Given its a rather heavy gold watch its safety clasp with Easylink is quite helpful too.

You are not crazy for buying the WG pepsi. Although Rolex makes them look “similar”, the feel and sense of ownership is different, I will suggest go for wg pepsi as you sounded that oyster bracelet is your preference which we suspect that it will not be available in SS any time soon since Rolex refresh the GMT lineup.

not crazy, but the GMT would be heavy and a bit blingy imho. It's a beauty for sure. I prefer the PP Travel time, (caveat: at retail) understated class.

I’m waiting to pick up an SS Pepsi but all things being equal (which they’re obviously not) I’d go WG every time.

I would personally get WG Pepsi with meteorite dial. Durable, luxury and way more attractive even in price terms than Patek!

Production will be limited (Gibeon meteorite) and therefore the WG Pepsi is more special.

The meteorite dial makes each watch unique and the hue and heft of WG makes it easily far more desirable than any SS reference

Maybe you can break the news by informing her that she’s getting a 5164 for Christmas while you’re getting the Pepsi.

As you point out, the TT is a much better GMT. Don't know why Rolex hasn't gone this way. Talk about waiting lists, been waiting on a TT for three years.

Not crazy, the WG w/meteorite is a special watch. Not likely to see many in the wild. That being said, it's not for everyone, but neither is WG. Personally, of all WG Rolex models the GMT Pepsi is my favorite and the only one I would ever get since I really prefer YG. I also think meteorite dials are underrated, to think where they came from is really amazing!

You’re making the right move on the meteorite. I’ve been kicking around launching my SS Pepsi and getting it myself. The heft of PM has a strong pull

Any idea of the availability of the WG GMT at AD’s? I’m interested in buying. I can’t decide which face I prefer as I like both...

I see most voted for the meteorite dial WG GMT. Both the Rolex and the Patek you like are very nice, either would be wonderful to own. The Patek is an expensive steel watch on a rubber strap, the WG Pepsi does have the oyster bracelet but now you have a precious metal piece that may scratch easier, both 40mm. I am guessing here, but it seems you really want a meteorite dial. I would suggest considering a steel Skydweller , 42mm, dual time zone, annual calendar, but even with a blue dial maybe not as interesting as a meteorite dial. On the secondary market, black dial could perhaps be purchased for less than a steel BLRO and the Skydweller has a more sophisticated movement, also has a higher MSRP than the steel BLRO it's a better buy on the secondary market. My .02.

Thanks for your input. I do not have an interest in the Skydweller, so it is the Pepsi for me. I have not even seen a photo of the Pepsi with meteorite, but I will go to the AD in the next few days and see what they can do.

I admit that I'd feel a little silly buying the WG black-dial Pepsi given that the steel one exists. But, that white dial looks better to me every time I see it. And for whatever reason, the little metal frame on the date window feels like a perfect, classy additional touch.

(Yes, I know the metal frame on the date is probably just because the meteorite can't be finished well enough for a clean date window, but I still think it looks great.)

So you have seen a photo? Because I have not been able to find one. If you could post one I would really appreciate it.

FWI, I have owned a meteorite Daytona in the past so kinda know what it would look like, but not exactly.

One thing I noticed in this photo is how legit blue and red colors are on the bezel compared to steel models. There's no purple/pink hue issues
