There seems to be a lot of negativity, presumably from people who feel a bit silly for spending 1000’s on a load of crap they didn’t want at their AD to get on “the list”?!

Good for you, OP!

I just don't think that currently, for the vast majority, it is feasible to obtain the hot pieces at MSRP without prior, high spending, history.

Can I ask, which one of those is your very first one? Some Two-tone model or full gold? Or maybe Date-Just perhaps?

It’s a great feat among this group to snag one of those grail watches.
All in 12 months is like winning the lotto.
If this ADs other clients knew one guy was getting all these in one year, how do you think they’d feel? Especially if that individual was buying expensive jewelry figuring he was next.

A colleague of mine has spent $200k in less than 12 months, not just on watches at his AD and still has not been able to get a Panda, Green dial daytona or Rootbeer.

That AD values you a lot.

I think some of the negativity comes from the fact that you absolutely cannot argue that collection simply looks like "tick the boxes" list from the past year's worth of survey's or IG posts on the most popular references. Folks are likely betting the next additions will be a PP and/or AP. That in itself however doesn't necessarily make it bad. There are obviously more than a few folks out there with the financial resources and ability to do this, and it's in no small part what is fueling the current demand for certain references.

I'm guessing some of the other views simply come from folks who are unable to get a single piece that they've been wanting and waiting for (or buying jewelry in hopes of getting), yet the OP managed to get many of them in a short timeframe. That's just good old fashioned jealousy (myself included)!

We all have different relationships with our AD's, all of us have differing financial resources, differing tastes in watches, and have differing reasons for procuring what we do. I'm not and likely won't be in a position to assemble such a collection (unless it's a couple rows of Casios) and though I'm envious, I'm happy for the OP.

I say, whether it's a "stuff the box as fast as you can" collection or not, good on the OP and congratulations. It's a beautiful bunch of watches no matter how/when/why/where he/she/they got them.

I have to say only two things: congratulations for the perfect collection and congratulations for being able in 12 months to have the financial capability to make this happens. Wear in good health

My AD probably gets a max of 1, maybe 2 Pepsis a year. A great collection OP, but I figure you must be in an NYC/SF/LA sized market yes?

This is true. There were limited number sent to ADs before the Corona lock downs began. Only VIPs got access to them.

Ouch.

116500 white - Sort of understand, but still surprising not being able to get one with that history.

116508 green - Still makes sense given the demand for it.

12671x - The fact that he hasn't gotten this (regardless of configuration) with $200K spend in less than a year is bananas.

Great collection and choices. That's really an AD to treasure.
Congrats!

Which one is your favorite to wear?
And out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, when in the process of collecting did you ask for the SS Daytona and how long did it take?

Pardon my first purchase I laid out exactly what I wanted. I told him in no particular order just whenever they were available.
Aware of the Daytonas is the most.

You had the cash and the desire to acquire them. Good for you.... it’s one hell of a collection.

The green dial Daytona..... Urgh! Phenomenal!

Thanks for the quick reply.
I don't have a Daytona and it's the one I want to add next.

I think clear answers to these questions will silence all of the haters or doubters, or at least clarify the situation (since a lot of your answers seem purposely vague):

1. Besides Rolex, what else have you purchased from this AD?

2. Length of relationship with this AD?

3. Total lifetime spend with this AD, not counting Rolex.

4. What size market are you in?

The GMT LN was discontinued in 2018 but they still dwindled to ADs all the way through 2020. The last ones actually have the new warranty card without the name on it.
