Does anyone have a list of historic prices? I can't be the only curious nerd here that thinks it would be interesting to visualize AP prices against the sanity of the world..

2016. The days before the cryptocurrency craze.
People keep talking about how it's social media hype, but honestly, I feel like it's the crypto-craze that's caused watch prices to get absurd... All the crypto speculators also speculate on watches. |

It's both. Hype from social media, but crypto allowed the hype beasts the means to afford the watches now.

It makes sense with all the extra cash out there, but I wonder how much crossover there really is between watch and crypto speculation? I have a lot of crypto friends and a lot of watch collector friends, and I can say that in my case these friend groups are mutually exclusive.

Finally I think all luxury categories are spilling into each other with every category running into shortages? |

In any case, I think there are plenty of factors beside crypto that are driving demand. The stock market has been bonkers, interest rates are low, COVID has suppressed a lot of spending in other categories (e.g. travel). I don't think crypto deserves all the blame. |

Someone posted a chart for the Sept 21 price increase so I thought I'd pay it forward and do this one. It's by no means comprehensive but I like numbers!

In '18 bought my ROC for 24K MSRP. It's now 33K. That's a nuts increase in a little over 3 years.

I turned down a new 15400 Steel with Black dial just ahead of the AD losing the franchise and a UK price increase.......and I still cannot recall why......so I've done my best to block out the finer detail

As with everything else, companies will charge what the market can bear...why shouldn't they? If someone can make a better, more desirable, cheaper product then people will buy those and so on and so forth.
It's up to the market to decide and as well know, they could raise prices 50% and still have waiting lists. As long as people who aren't truly WIS are buying for investment as long as the secondary market is high enough to justify their investment they will keep buying. |

Raising prices across the board once a year is often considered generally acceptable. Raising prices for a specific product more than once a year because all of a sudden it got dramatically more expensive to produce, compared to the rest of the product portfolio, is also considered generally acceptable. Raising prices across the board multiple times a year is not. |

Ugh. Don't know why but somehow crossing over that 60k threshold for ROO rose gold irks me.
