Two departments within one company can collaborate, as can two co-owned brands, as can two staffers in one office. Collaboration isn't limited to separate companies.

There are so many view points on this MoonSwatch all over the internet. It's amazing to watch how it's gaining a life all of its own |

I just think it's good to see some large-scale worldwide buzz/hype/craziness for an affordable watch that isn't made by Apple.

I doubt this was Omega’s choice.

If there's one thing we can learn about Rolex and Tudor is that there is a clear hierarchy. Sure 50 years ago there was less clear of a boundary between both brands as seen with examples of Tudor with Rolex parts, but these days I think it would be really difficult, if not impossible to see a Tudor with a Rolex stamped parts. Being under the same parent company, Tudor could have used the calibre 4130 for their BB chronograph but instead choose to seek an outside movement from Breitling. Having a clear structure and hierarchy in terms of brand allows them to target the appropriate audience at different price points, rather than trying to be a jack of all trades and ended up being a master of none.

I'm a Rolex fanboy and I think Rolex should not and never will do a collaboration for marketing purpose.
*edit* such as the MoonSwatch series

I wouldn’t mind it if they did. I also wouldn’t be bothered if someone thought my Rolex was a swatch or whatever brand they did a collab with.

Saw them today, they look exactly like Speedmasters and say Omega on them. I’m tempted to get up early.
Put aside Rolex not having the necessary affiliation to do this, it would bug me to have a 270$ watch that looks exactly like a Rolex with Rolex on the dial. |

Don't get too snobby. Everyone thinks your Rolex is fake anyway. This is some great marketing.

But is this a fake? That is where the issue lies. It's basically an Omega. If not what is it?

Nobody that knows enough to recognize a Speedmaster would be dumb enough to mistake this for a "real" Omega. |

It's an exact look alike for an Omega watch. It has the Omega logo and name in the 12 area. It has a large Omega on the strap. I saw them in person. It's a 270$ Omega Speedmaster. |

I wish I could disagree. Very prominent omega logo and name omega top center. If the speedy dial wasn't just matte plastic itself it would be an easier pill to swallow.

Not only that, it also has the special features such as the dot over 90 that has been the trademark of Speedmasters for decades! My god!

I would've liked to have been a fly on the wall during discussions around this in the boardroom at Omega It may have been akin to someone in the highest echelons of the Japanese imperial army coming up with the idea of attacking Pearl Harbour. I wonder who would've actually opposed it |

So apparently the people in Omega were against the project, but when the boss insists on this travesty, what choice do they have? This is exactly why Rolex, AP, PP, RM and FPJ should remain independent! |

Funny was at my local shopping mall, the swatch store had a line a mile long, cops were called store was closed. Full of early 20's sucked in by the hype on social media can't afford Rolex, Omega etc so this will do.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay over list for this watch, they will make millions of them, it's just plain madness.

MoonSwatch already on Chrono24 only few hours after release and they’re going for US $ 4k. Bear in mind this watch retails for $ 250

I don’t see anyone paying that kind of premium for this watch. Sure hope I’m not wrong about that. |

Hardly the same premium, and lots of people will feel dumb for paying that in a few weeks. |
