If you are spending above your comfort zone of disposable income on luxury goods then you get what you get. If they are influenced by social media on topics they don’t have experience on with money they cant afford to lose, then they really are going to get what they get and probably a trail of regrets following many other questionable decisions in life’s journey. The hyper focus on a small short sided demographic in this case is taking the topic in the woods. I also may put in context that if someone did over extend themselves, the worst possible action in the Rolex world is to sell and not hold long term. That’s about the best advice I could give anyone that extended them self. Certainly in 10 years that overextended purchase won’t seem so absurd and idiotic with what it may be worth then IF they needed to sell. But this all goes back to what we all preach….Buy what you love and watches are NOT an investment. Outside of that you have to treat everyone like an adult and let them be responsible for what and how they buy.

Check some or my prior posts comparing 126500 vs other watches. I like the watch, just not as much on a relative basis. Then when someone is trading FOR the watch, I would ascribe zero premium (of course). So rather than an extreme view, isn’t mine more conservative? If only a small difference (which on relative basis I agree) then why would someone bother at all? As for people who bought at peak prices, from a comparison POV it is moot - a sunk cost. Similar to those who held - sunk and should not factor into future decisions. Finally, for someone who knew the market would likely decline, selling at a premium would have been a minor advantage. First, if you bought retail like me - you know precisely what you have. Condition and provenance. Second, selling at peak would mean additional taxes on the gain. Third, buying back - retail takes time (potentially a lot) and secondary market you cannot know precisely what you get. There are some transaction costs. Of course the above apply to flipping from a 116 to 126. But we are talking today’s market and premium on both is lower and the relative cost of entry (with caveats above) is low. Finally, a lot of people who obtained the 116 retail could get the 126 retail - eventually. In my case I prefer the 116. I also prefer a vintage pepsi over BLRO. I couldn’t care less what others ascribe my preferences to… but in terms of opinions on the forum I see no more bias in my positions than those clamoring for the 126… but the modest market premium despite much lower supply suggests my view is indeed the majority view. |

1. Yes people make stupid investments and to some degree shame on them. But we heavily regulate the world of securities for a reason, and we don’t regulate watch sales. There few guard rails to protect people from those who are simply trying to monetize a luxury market bubble and take advantage of them through false/misleading information. Particularly in the world of easy credit, that can be dangerous. 2. While I used the $50k purchaser as an example, I think it’s true top to bottom. There are far more 11 owners than there are 12 owners and there will be a continuing incentive for 11 owners to shout to the rooftops that that is the best model. Not even just financial incentive, but also tribalistic, “I have the best watch” incentives. People should just realize that when reading these kinds of threads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What about those that had the choice of both and picked the newer one? At least we are basing our feedback on firsthand experience. Some on this thread I will guarantee have never held or worn both versions and yet are acting like authorities on the matter. If you have not seen or worn the new one (and old one) in real life, you really have no business giving anyone purchasing advice between the two versions, or even making sweeping statements about which watch is better. Polls for fun, sure, but which to buy, not so much.
Bottom line, watches wear almost identical, I would not sell an 11 for a 12. But if buying new, I’d go 12 because there are details that I think are nicer, having worn both. I certainly will not go around saying one or the other is the greatest Daytona ever and bashing the other version like others have and are doing. Ps- greatest steel Daytona ain’t ceramic folks, it is the zenith. Without it, none of this convo exists. |

They are both good but you’re giving up a lot of variety in three watches that are grails for many on their own for two watches that are identical with a different colour palette. I wouldn’t do that trade.

You know what OP? Just take everybody's comments with a pinch of salt.
You'll find a number of different groups on here (as you will with every single "this or that?" thread). In this instance you will probably have - * 116500 owners (and non-owners) who genuinely like everything about the 11 series, and will die on the hill of saying it's the greatest ever. * 116500 owners who bought mainly because of hype (and didn't really like stuff like the asymmetric lugs) but will also die on the hill of saying it's the greatest ever, because it's the one they dropped a load of cash on. * 126500 owners (and non-owners) who genuinely like everything about the 12 series, and will say the 12 is the best ever. * 126500 owners who wanted a 116500, missed it at retail and won't pay a penny over retail for one. These guys will also claim the 126500 is the greatest ever, because again, it's the one they got! (Or can get) What all that means is that this thread is nothing more than people's opinions, and while lots is stated as if it's fact, in reality it couldn't be further from the truth. So while we're talking opinions, here's mine - I personally never liked the 116500. It wears too small on me, I never liked now the ceramic bezel is kind of perched on top of the case, and the asymmetric lugs have always been an aesthetic abomination to my eyes. The BLRO is decent enough but the bezel colours are often way off what a Pepsi should look like IMO. And personally speaking, for all the historic NASA connections, I find the Snoopy to be way over-rated and gimmicky. On the other hand, I genuinely love the 126500 as it fixes everything I disliked about the 116500. I think it looks especially good in black, but both colours are great... and I've handled both. So again, if it was my money, I'd make that trade like a shot. But ultimately it comes down to what you prefer, and if you think anything like I do, then don't hesitate to make the change.

Good point. I find my black sub and Ed White are actually better pairings with my white Daytona than my black Daytona is.

Okay. I’m gonna blow up this thread - both 116500 and 126500 are really average! Don’t overpay even a dime extra for either! Be happy with what you have and if you can add the 126500 then do so. To trade all the 3 watches you have for the same pair of watches is a bad decision and a waste of money.

I wouldn’t do that. I love the Pepsi too much. The speedy I feel nothing for. If YOU want to do it…then go for it. It’s a fair deal.

Generally agree but the 126500 owner who wanted a 116500 could swap for one and get cash back. So not sure that group really exists… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
