A customer asked a week ago if my Day-Date was real. I told him yes, and handed him the watch. That did shut him up.

The first day I wore my Sub-C to work, the snobby busy-body ex New Yorker woman from marketing asked if it was real. I told her no, I bought it for $20 in NYC last week (I had been there). She wouldn't stop hounding me until I confirmed that it was real.

Meanwhile, she wears what I assume is a fake Cartier. I think it's fake because all the gold coloring has worn off.

I would tell her "maybe we both should get back to work and talk about it another time" at my job those questions never get asked we are too busy working as a team to worry whose Rolex is fake or whose is real. My department alone has 4 Rolexes taking up wrist room. The only mention of it is when we compliment each other on our watches. Usually when someone has an issue with their Rolex they come to me to see whats wrong. One of my co-workers today asked me to adjust the date on her ladies TT DJ, during the adjustment I noticed that her quickset date was not working, I mentioned it to her so now she can mention it to her AD when she takes it over for service.

If I'm walking in a dark alley, I say no. If one of my friends asks, I say yes.

I'd put them on the spot and say "why do you ask?". And I would never take off it off for someone to inspect unless it was family or a friend.

Issue has been addressed many times before.

I'd actually rather have strangers (at least) think it is fake.

That is one of the most interesting posts I've ever read. I laughed out loud--whether it's true or not.

I had my co-worker ask me if my Tag was a fake. This is pretty funny considering that it is my daily beater and one of my cheapest watches. I told him it was a wedding present from my wife and he never asked me again. He was insulted that I had a nicer watch than he had on. He said he liked Tags but thought they were too expensive.

It depends on who asking guys
For example : you work for a bank and your job is to raise fund. Then if an investor ask you your Rox is real, you should better say it's real and do whatever you need to prove it's real should bring the warranty card

But a big thug type guy in a gym ask you this, you better say yeah, Mr Wong from China town blah blah, and Mr Wong gave you a big discount

I was talking to an older guy once that I thought had a Rolex and it turns out it was a fake. He went on to say how his wife once tried to get him a real one for a gift as it turns out then they found out how much it was and decided it was way too much. He then noticed mine and that's when I told him mine was fake too. It was my fault, I brought it up. I then heard a long story about how he liked Rolex watches and so on. Hey I didn't want to tell him how mine was real at that point.
Too funny. How ironic would it be both is watch was actually real, and you were both giving each other the same line?

Yep...it was a bit creepy! Didn't exactly ruin my day, as i think I was more embarrassed for him showing so little class! As well, that was an "A" series Sub that I had been wearing for 8 years before ever having someone ask.

If anybody asks i tell them the truth. Why would I be offended by the question?

The reason behind asking might be genuine interest in watches, seeing a real Rolex could be the trigger of newborn WIS-dom. :)

Again, per several other responders, it all depends on who's asking and how!

Of course, if somebody asks in a dark alley i´m going to take for granted that he or she is not a WIS.

Zed, love profile pic of Christopher Walken showing that uncomfortable hunk of metal! Has to be one of the funniest scenes in a movie ever!

This queston is annoying because I never know what to say. I just look through them as if they asked the dumbest thing I ever heard.

I like to say either, "yes" or "what do you think?". And leave it at that.

I guess it adds a bit of fun for me, and mystery for them.

I honestly answer, "Yes". And I would await their response, and handle any other comments like "why pay so much for a watch", etc. from there.

Also, one of the best pieces of advice I ever got was if offered a compliment, simply say "Thank you" and drop the subject there. No need to dwell on it.

I just politely reply "no, but it sure looks like a real one doesn't it?"

Always tell those in doubt that it's fake.
