What do you do when somebody asks you if your Rolex is real?
A few years back, I was talking outside the gym with a friend when a guy my friend knew broke conversation and asked me if my Rolex sub was real? I explained to him that unless my AD Ben Bridge was selling fakes, then it's the real deal? How would you handle this?

I would say I think so or at least that is what the guy told me in NYC when I forked over my $20 dollar bill.

I always reply that it's a fake. Less questions to answer.

Ask if his teeth are real...
If the answer is "yes" politely inform him they won't remain that way if he keeps asking stupid questions!

Put THEM on the spot!
Ask them to check it for me, if they feel it's a fake then they'll be able to show me what points them in that direction, usually they get the message! Had one idiot strongly insist that one was a fake as it had no rehaut engraving - he was quickly pulled aside and embarrassed when a mutual friend intervened. Stupidity, jealousy and ignorance all displayed in great abundance.

Depending on the way the guy asks. If he looks like he likes watches. I would ask... What do you think? And will lend it to him for inspection (maybe he is just a good guy trying to start a talk about watches or something) If the guy is not friendly then I would say... Of course is not real... And will continue my conversation with my friend.

Just agree with them and move on.... It really doesn't matter as I wear it for myself although I would try not to draw attention to it in the first place.

Can't agree more with this response. I've seen a thread on this topic before and the amount of harsh comments it kicked up amongst people for others asking this 'taboo' question was just ridiculous.
There IS a stigma around the word 'Rolex', and bearing in mind just how many people live on this planet, many will get by thier entire lives quite happily without owning, or even seeing (or realising they have seen) one. Many people actually don't care... So if and when an individual happen's to see one and who know very little about them I guess naturally a question they may ask is if it's real or not. Whether you like it or not and whether it's right or wrong, it's just an innocent question in my opinion. You've got be a a very sad individual if you let it ruin your day. No offence... |

I might have told him it was real, I mean it just depends on the context and what is going on. I can see there being times when I would just agree that mine are fakes.
I was talking to an older guy once that I thought had a Rolex and it turns out it was a fake. He went on to say how his wife once tried to get him a real one for a gift as it turns out then they found out how much it was and decided it was way too much. He then noticed mine and that's when I told him mine was fake too. It was my fault, I brought it up. I then heard a long story about how he liked Rolex watches and so on. Hey I didn't want to tell him how mine was real at that point.

Never been asked personally...... but if i was ever asked, I would just say " well it tells the time so it's definitely a real watch"
But it's a bit like someone asking you "is that a big bag of cash you're carrying there....." depending on where you are and who's asking, could be cause for concern, or just a conversation starter Someone once told me that a Rolex can be turned into cash in any city in the world in less than 30 minutes ...... probably very true. |

As long as the person didn't look like a nutter, I'd say, "nah it's real, look"

Easy. Just say "for $500, it better be real!" Or perhaps, "my salesman Wong in Chinatown swears that it's real."
Or for the hardcore purist, pull the warranty card/paper out of your wallet and show it to questioner. |

I don't like when people ask this question bc it generally implies that there's no way you have the money for a real one, or that you're tacky enough to wear a rolex built in China. My point is that it's generally asked in negative context by those that don't know you.
