I've been in "T" stores and they seem to pay attention to what you're wearing on wrist .
I had a SA compliment my SMP - good ice breaker lol

Another time same store different SA - complimented my watches Bezel ? It was a Monta triumph she could not see the watch from the counter - may have wanted me to show her the watch - I didn't

My coolest experience was a Patek dealer complimenting my Seiko Turtle

That made me feel like he is a true watch enthusiast

I mean when I went to a grand Seiko boutique the guy kept talking my Rolex down

Hahaha

So a Patek guy complimenting a $400 watch was a good experience

You can't talk to a Grand Seiko guy for 1 minute without him mentioning how he thinks it's so much better than a Rolex. After 2 minutes, he'll mention how he could've bought a Rolex but chose the GS for various reasons. It's just part of the brand identity!

I said to her in the moment "I don't treat my watches that way and I'd like if you didn't either." She apologized and we went on our way. No harm no fowl, but I wasn't pleased

That is unbelievable! I don't baby my watches but I don't know how I would react if that happened to me. I'd probably ask to see a platinum DD and comment on the weight and do the same thing.

I actually tried to use this to my advantage when I went to a 2018 Baselworld showing at my AD. I asked to try on the 126710 BLRO and took off my vintage 16750 and put it on the tray. Sales guy picked it up excitedly and starting asking all sorts of questions. He then happily added me to the wait list.

Problem is I’m still waiting

I’ve often wondered about going into an AD and being shown a Daytona that is “reserved for another client” then ‘accidentally’ dropping it on the floor. Followed by “Oh crap! Sorry - guess I’d better buy that from you now”

Yeah!

Problem is that most of them time I don’t think they are

Just like the guys at the auto parts store, a lot of times they don’t know what’s going on with things

Correct!

I appreciate a watch enthusiast that can respect different brands

Never happened to me, esp without asking, and doubt it would happen in UK much, I'm now tempted to put down my gold Nautilus in a Rolex AD and see if any would dare touch it without asking.

We are reaching a new low in AD SA relations..lol

First it was being condescending upon being tested by underdressing to test the SA.

Second it was they are talking to us TOO MUCH and trying to SELL US watches.

Third it was the SA don't seem to care about watches and won't chat with us about nerdy things.

Fourth, it was the diet coke wasn't cold.

NOW they are touching our watches when we try on their stock...sure...ok
You said it better than I could have. It happens to me all the time and doesn't bother me one bit.

I don't care. I let my coworkers and staff handle and even try on my watch of they ask.

Bought several pieces from Tourneau, they never fondled my Sub or Seamaster. Once the sales girl just got out another mat because I put the watch down on the glass.

I always put my watch in my pocket if I do not want a sales person to see or handle it while I try on one of their watches.

After reading this thread I'm quite surprised at many of the responses. So, you walk into an AD to try on a new watch or a few, you think that gives the salesperson the right to grab your watch off the tray and start messing with it? I would not be OK with that. My spouse nor child handles my watch and it would be a cold day in hell before some stranger does.

I never take my watch off nor try to show what I’m wearing. I use my other wrist to try on watches.

Same thing happens when I visit my local A.D. The SA always picks up my watch, and inspect it politely. They try to make it look like they are interested in what you were wearing, when in reality they are just verifying that it is real, and you are a serious customer. Not a poser.

Yes...happens exactly as you describe. Tourneau does this as do other ADs I've visited. I think they are also subtly checking to see if what you're wearing into the store is authentic.

My AD never does this, but all my Rolexes have been purchased from him.

It's not like they're unscrewing the crown and pushing the pushers etc. They just pick it up, probably with gloves on, and look at it and put it back down. Maybe they even give you a nice compliment.
