It's nice but doesn't compare to a Rolex Sub imho. Something about the bracelet and fit is off to me on the BB58. So I will not be selling or purchasing anything.

I never had the time to let them settle in - there was always something else that caught my attention. Omegas, Breitlings, IWC’s. I did many bad deals also flipping them for a fraction of what I paid for them. Now I have two "nice" watches. A BLRO and a DJ41 fluted/jubilee/blue stick. I also have a 1999 Bond Seamaster for a semi beater and some G-Shocks for heavy tasks. This year, the DJ will follow me on my vacation. It will be scratched, but that is fine.
A lot of wisdom in that post. It is a pretty safe bet that those who go down the path of always searching for the next great watch will never scratch that itch. Contentment is a great thing.

I think a lot of people here took it in good humour. I was merely curious after seeing a thread on another forum about someone asking if s/he should sell their Submariner Smurf to get BB58 Blue.
Instagram is bloated with pics of BB58 right next to Rolex/Omega and what have you. SI posed the question. Some of us keep a rotation, one in and one out. Now that BB58 is hotter than Gaga for the minute, who is caving in.....

How many of you are selling your Rolex to get the hot new watch? How many didn't plan on getting it but are now onboard the train?
This thread has been fun to follow along. Although the OP might not have intended it, I perceive that his question(s) were really composed of multiple layers of other questions. The many responses to the OP hinted at these layers. From what has been said so far, here are some of the imbedded questions I see:

a) The most basic one: Does the currently "hyped" watch (in this case Blue Bay 58) move one to sell a currently owned one (presumably of some value to the collector) in order to obtain the hyped one? I think the resounding response, which I agree with, is that based on hype alone one should not pursue a watch.

b) Related to the hype question above, and perhaps a little more hidden: Does the brand of the "hyped" watch affect whether one might get drawn into pursuing it primarily because the hype? I think that intellectually most would say "no, I don't go after hyped watches of any brand," but I think it was suggested at least once that if a hyped watch happens to be a more "prestigious" brand like Rolex/AP/PP/etc, succeptibility to hype may be greater. I think there is probably truth to this. Out of fairness to those who may fall into this category, when you look at grey market prices for the hot Rolex SS sports models, from a cold financial perspective going after a hyped Rolex watch may make some sense (if you time the market right). I don't fall into this group, but I acknowledge the logic.

c) Generally speaking, are Tudor watches of equal value to Rolex watches? I think the consensus in this thread is that as a whole and on average, from a strictly financial perspective, Rolex is in a higher value category than Tudor. It is hard to debate this, as this was and still is the basic differentiation between the sister brands.

d) The more interesting followup question, is can an individual Tudor watch (insert here Blue Bay 58) be of equal or greater value to the collector as a Rolex watch in their collection? I think there are some who might say yes, this is a possibility. Especially if the Rolex watch in question has a similar market value and doesn't get much wrist time. YMMV, of course.

e) At last (for now ): Does it ever make sense to sell a watch in one's collection (Rolex or otherwise) in order to obtain the hyped "watch du jour"? I'll assume that this hypothetical collector, for whatever reason, has established a "one in, one out" rule. Many have stated, and I agree, that it is most optimal to just add, but for some that is not their paradigm. I think in some scenarios (ie. sell a watch that does not get much wrist time) it may make some sense.

I know I have given the OP much more than he asked for with my post -- thanks for putting up with it! You all know that I recently got the Blue Bay 58 and I'm loving it. Since I really don't have a social media presence, I was unaware of the hype...only found out about its release through murmurs on this forum. Made the move because it checked off all of my boxes, and moved quickly because ironically I respect what hype can do to the available supply Did not sell anything to get this one, but if I had the constraint of "one in, one out," would I be open to selling a watch in my collection (even a Rolex) to acquire it? Maybe, if it wasn't getting much wrist time. I like my Blue Bay 58 that much! Have a great week everyone!

Why buy a Rolex then. They literally last a lifetime or few

I haven't read the entire thread but you must be mad imo to think about selling a Rolex for a Tudor. By all means add but to replace would make no sense.

Seems like a dumb troll thread designed to get people to bash Tudor. No, I would not sell my Rolex, because I like my Rolex. Presumably, if you have a Rolex in your collection, it is because you like it, so why sell it for any other watch? That said, I like Tudor very much and the new 58 seems like a solid entry.

Just a garbage thread title, OP.

I’m definitely not! I’m loving that blue DJ though! The more I see the modern DJs the more I want one!

I was hoping Tudor would release a BB58 GMT, I would go for one then but not give up a Rolex to do so for the hype or skyrocketing prices!

I don't want to sell my Rolex to buy the BB58.

My AD said I am almost at the top on their waitlist for the white dial Daytona.
I'll trade my waitlist spot for a BB58 + Cash.

Is this a troll post? I mean yeah the new BB Blue is a nice looking watch and all but this is lunacy, mostly brought on by those with purchases made.

Why would I down grade and sell my Rolex for a Tudor? Asinine! Lol

My AD just asked for full payment up front and gave no ETA. Sorry we must be talking about different watches? It’s a Tudor...

Nice watch but overhyped in my opinion. I feel the hype stems from the lack of other new watches from Rolex and Tudor this year.
