So, if one watch for everything is the rule... for a true GADA (for normal people who, e.g. swim, but don't dive the Mariana Trench) for beach/business/boardroom/running errands around town/casual & fancy affairs, I think any bezelled sports model is out as I don't think that is appropriate in a dress setting (e.g. wedding) IMHO. (Yes, I know a solid PM Daytona is a gorgeous watch and your Sub feels perfectly at home at a wedding, but I'd wear a true dress watch to an affair like that (if possible) and not a Platona or a DeepSea.)

That leaves DJ, DD, OP, Exp/AK & 1908.

Must be on a bracelet and have a date (I (at least) need a date on my daily-driver). That leaves DJ & DD.

Shouldn't be full PM (for versatility).

So, for me, the best Rolex GADA watch - indeed, possibly the best GADA watch available from any brand- has to be the DateJust.

I'll say DJ, probably TT for maximum dress/sport versatility, with silver or white dial, & I'll let you pick your bezel & bracelet style.

Honestly kinda think the new ‘58 GMT from Tudor. I know I’m biased as I’ve just bought one and love it, but it’s got a lot going for it. GMT function, totally waterproof, METAS reliable. Won’t offend in any company, isn’t a theft magnet. I’m planning on wearing it for upcoming travel in place of my BLNR.

Any Oyster, including a bejewelled Lady DJ, is tough enough to go diving or snorkelling, sailing around the world, or exploring.

So the only thing that remains is social appropriateness. For a man there is only one Rolex that will go from Black Tie, to boardroom, to sports field, and that is an all silver monochrome, baton indicia, OP. For a woman, essentially any Oyster has the same social span.

Love all the responses. I left it open ended and realized it’s very dependent on the person.

For me, I want a watch I can travel with that can do anything. So that meant being in the pool, going for a nice dinner, walking around town, or going to the gym. I generally travel to what I consider safe places, but you’re traveling and might go to unknown places. I don’t want to be thinking about not banging up the watch on my wrist or thinking it’s too flashy.

So the watch has to be understated enough that it feels safe whenever you go, but also have enough wrist presence that it works well for a nice dinner.

Metal bracelet for the water. Brushed oyster bracelet for the understated nature, and not too blingy means no fluted bezel. Not to loud also means no yellow or rose gold, WG is possible but it just doesn’t feel like something you can forget on your wrist. Double lock clasp also key for the sportiness and not worrying about it slipping off in the pool or a hike.

That watch for me has been the Explorer 36mm, and has been my go to travel watch. Feels like it checks nearly all the boxes, the only one is that it doesn’t have enough wrist presence.

Oh do I want a titanium YM.

Great thought process and a great choice! Also throw in highly legible for its primary task of telling the time.
