I've been approached more wearing my Seikos than with my Rolex, although I've only had my GMT Master II for about 5 months now. But I will totally go up to people that I see wearing a nice watch and comment.

Just last week when I got to Hawaii on vacation, I saw a gentleman on the rental car shuttle wearing a very pristine 16710 BLRO. I was wearing my GMT LN, so I commented and pointed out it was a very nice example. He thanked me and we discussed it for a minute until we arrived.

Then, later in the week we were at a restaurant on the beach seated next to a group of 4 older couples (mid-60s, I'd guess), with all four gentlemen wearing 4 or 5 digit Rolexes: one TT DJ, a TT 16613 LB Sub, a 16713 LN GMT, and what looked to be a vintage 1610 Explorer. The gentleman wearing the Sub made eye contact with me, pointed to his Sub and gave me a nod of recognition. I'm only 35, these guys could have been my dad, but there was an immediate sense of recognition and mutual respect.

But like I said, my Seiko 6105s and MM300 have been commented on more; unfortunately it's usually to ask if they're a Rolex!

Remember, what Rolex or (insert name of luxury brand here) means to you is what a Fossil or even G-Shock may mean to someone else. When someone compliments me on my watch, I always smile and say thank you. I often follow that up with an open ended question such as, "do you like watches?" This often leads to an interesting conversation for both me and the admirer. Only once have I been asked if the watch I was wearing is real, and that was by my nosy brother. My response to him was, "it's real to me".

Like previously said by everyone in this thread, it just depends on someone goes about mentioning it. I tend to say (if I like the watch), "That's a nice (whatever it is), you have good taste." This usually leads into a good conversation about it which is always fun and interesting.

Well, if your hand was in your pocket, it may not have been your watch that she was staring at.

When I am in the office and people need to sit and speak with me, they may stare for half a second on my watch. But that's all. I have never received any comments. And probably they would have stared on my wrist even if I was wearing a Casio pathfinder.

In 45 years maybe 3 people have asked and only because they recognized the Submariner and thought about getting one

Almost never happens to be, but when it does I love it! It's the rare chance for me to speak to another human about watches!

After all these years my watch has been noticed a handful of times.

When wearing long sleeves I tend to keep them pulled down.

Don't want or need random people to notice my watch.

It depends on the environment where my watch is noticed and who noticed it, in an unsafe environment, i would bother.

I get a comment on my Hulk which I daily atleast once a week usually. I’m in sales though so I meet a lot of people. I think the green is also more noticeable.

About a week after buying my 116610LN I was at a sporting event and another competitor asked me "Is that the new Submariner?" then proceeded to tell me all about his Pepsi GMT II his father gave him back in the 80's, how he had it serviced recently, and his travels with it. It was fun to talk about.

Later I noticed another competitor had the same watch on as me, first time seeing another person out with one. I said "Nice watch" and he looked concerned at first until he saw mine then got a huge grin on his face. Seems like the reaction depends on the commenters enthusiasm for watches to me.

In 18 years only four people have commented on my watch.

1 - Having lunch with a friend who noticed my DJ (stainless 16220) and said it was nice but too flashy.
2 - A person at a drive-thru window said "nice watch" when I was paying. (Sub 16610).
3 - A person at work asked how much I paid for my Rolex (Sub 16610). I know that's really tacky to ask that question so I said it was a long time ago and I don't remember how much I paid.
4 - A friend asked me how long I've owned my Rolex (Sub 16610).

I don't feel uncomfortable at all when someone notices or comments on my watch, and for the most part, people don't even notice.

Does anyone else find it very uncomfortable when someone notices your watch?

If someone that I don’t care asks me anything about my watch I tell “it’s fake”, people that I care about do not ask me if my watch is fake and we might talk about watches if it’s a common interest.

In all fairness, that's generally what you're looking for with an LV.

Doesn’t tend to happen often, but I’ve never felt uncomfortable if it’s someone hitting me with a “Nice Polar Explorer”, or “Nice Snowflake” as it’s obvious they’re somewhat of a watch person.

A little awkward when people I don’t know super well start prying: “Is that a Rolex? How much was it?” Etc..

Some people don’t notice, other People notice but rather not comment.
Be it a 5 digit they are tool like with a bit of flash. 6 digits are flashy period.

If they ask if it’s real, I say yes, smile and walk on.

In my younger years I was in the smoking area of a club and a girl excitedly screamed “is that a Rolex” I replied yes to which she flung her arms around me....It was actually a cheap gold rotary.

No females have ever noticed my Rolex And only a few times have people ever commented.

The only comment I've received in 12 years on any Rolex watch in my collection was my 116234 on jubilee while at a dive bar/brewery that doesn't even have tables. It's a regular spot I go to and someone saw my watch from across the room and was clearly a WIS. He asked if it was a DJ41, when I told him it was the 36 he was impressed with how it wore and we had a lovely 5 minute chat about watches. It's funny that my smallest Rolex and one of the least valuable was the only one to get a comment but in many ways it made me appreciate the comment and conversation that much more. I love that watch.
