Caught my eye!
Once in a while I stumble upon a watch picture that catches my eye. I lifted this one from TZ and although I have seen pictures of this watch before and have not been terribly impressed, this picture is making me think twice. It's an IWC Spitfire Mk XVI and in this picture it looks amazing!
The dial looks very nice in this picture and in other pictures I've seen it looks very flat.....this one has some depth! |

Not a big fan of IWC. While it's a nice looking watch, there's way more out there that I'd look at before that caught my eye... like a UN Maxi Marine.

I was looking at an IWC and a JLC Memovox before I decided on the Panerai and saw that IWC at the AD. It's absolutely gorgeous in person The only problem with most of the IWC's I saw, is when you see them all together, you just can't decide on which you like the most

Quite like some IWC watches that one too, high build quality, but some now are over priced for what they are, like most high end brands today.

The UN still had the protective plastic on it
I don't like that IWC. Not enough contrast between the dial & the hands

Surprisingly that same IWC was advertised in this morning's NZ Herald by Watches of Switzerland.
The ad had a touch of humour to it: "The Pilot must look at other instruments in the cockpit besides this one!!" JJ

I like it alot Al, just looks small to me eyes on the wrist. My AD pulled the first Mark XVI she got this year since it was enlarged to 39, still couldn't pull the trigger.
Although they do have a 42mm watch that I have lusted over for a long time, could be landing at my door any second now.

ONce you see the Spitfire for real and up close, you will be really impressed. Plenty of contrast to see the hands. Really good illumination of the hands, better than Rolex. And the bracelet - best I have ever seen or had on my wrist. Seriously thinking of buying the one I looked at. Always wanted a IWC, and the Spitfire is one sharp looking rugged watch!

I like IWC as well. Plus, I have a couple of friends who own them and swear by them, saying they are amongst the most reliable and enjoyable watches they own. I think I personally would pick the Marx XVI classic with the black face and white markers to increase the contrast of the dial, but hey, they are great watches and you don't hear much about problems with them either. If you decide to buy it, you'll have to post a photo.
