Want proof that there are still good people in this world?
Tyler is an 18 year-old boy who lives in Frazee, Minnesota, eight miles down the road from me. Two months ago, he was diagnosed with metastatic, untreatable synovial cancer and was sent home on hospice to die.
Tyler's passion was his 1986 Pontiac Fiero car. He was an active member of Pennock's Fiero Forum on the internet, a group of hobbyists and enthusiasts who share a love for the little car, much like the TRF crowd. Tyler was very saddened that he would not be able to finish restoring his car before he died. This weekend, two dozen Fiero forum members from all over the country are coming to Frazee with parts and restoration skills, and along with local auto body repair and paint shops, they are going to finish his car for him. The story is here: http://tylerstoy.com/ You can follow the progress of the restorers as they fulfill this kid's dying wish. It certainly restores my faith in humanity. |

These aren't good people they are the best people. Nice story except for the part about Tyler being terminal.

I can't get behind the car but what a nice story! I joined a Land Rover club around here and it truly is the people that make these clubs special. Just a group of people with a shared passion, meeting people from all walks of life.

They finished the car. Tyler was able to ride as a passenger when it was done. What a wonderful story, and what terrific people!

Hello I am new and this may very well be my only post here. I have been completely amazed by how far Tyler's Story has reached. To correct a previous post, On the day of the reveal Tyler was able to drive the car. We really couldn't get him out of it. I signed up tonight to let you all know that as of 7:45pm CST Tyler has lost his fight with Sinovial Sarcoma. There has been a thread posted in the Fiero Forum where the friends of the rebuild all came from.
Here is the original thread that was started by Andrew Weigle of the U.S. National Guard while he was stationed in Iraq. This thread is where the entire project to help Tyler gained it's momentum. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/078180.html Here is a thread started for assistance for his funeral. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/079633.html TYLER SHIPMAN age 18 02/14/2010 Rest Peacefully my friend. |

Best to all who have been touched by Tyler's story. Especially his family, close friends, and the Fiero Forum members who participated in the restoration efforts.
