Learning to let go

I have made peace with scratches and blemishes on my Rollies and I feel so much better. I was driving myself crazy and being unrealistic about keeping my babies perfect. Now they all have a little "character" and I enjoy them even more!

good on ya mate. That's how it is.
I gave up on that after 2 hours wearing a PCL bracelet.

It adds character to the bracelet like you have mentioned.

I gave up a long time ago as well.

Once it gets it's first scratch, you are worry free.

That is the only attitude that will truly let you wear and enjoy your watches! And you're right - they're just "character" marks. Each one tells a story...

The first scratch on my new two tone really broke my heart... for five minutes.

On the other hand, I had worn an SD4000 every day for 8 years. That was so scratched up that you couldn't even notice new scratches. Like you said, there is great comfort in not caring and simply enjoying the watch without worrying about it.

But thanks to this forum, I got the idea of refinishing my SD with a scotchbrite. I was a bit skeptical but that worked much better than I expected!

My opinion: set an interval and stick with it. I wouldn't bother polishing more than once every six months to a year. If you can wait for the RSC to do it for you during a servicing, even better.

In my case the watch tells such great time that I can't justify getting it serviced.

I like that 6 month idea.

I have been touching up my bracelets too frequently with my fibreglass Becheron tool.

Thanks for that! Every so often, I need a reminder.
Maybe I should start wearing my Milgauss to work! I have an Omega Seamaster Pro that I wear every day, and a couple of other nice Omegas as well that get saved for weekends. Maybe I should start rotating the watches.
Cheers,
Carl

It is hard to let go. I think I have OCD over my "stuff" and cannot stand it when things get damaged. It drives me crazy for days. I do really need counseling.

I was doing exactly the same thing. I carefully kept my watches, locked in the safe and would only wear them on special occasions. Always worrying that I would crack the crystal or scratch the case.

Then one day, while at the pool, a good friend of mine reminded me to wear them and stop worrying about damaging them. Otherwise they just sit in a safe and collect dust.

No enjoyment in that, so I wear my submariner everywhere, everyday.

:-)
