Help Needed on Rolex Daytona Purchase!
Could anyone please educate me on the correct bracelet reference number and clasp style for a 2001 K Serial Daytona? I'm planning on buying one today if all looks right.
Also, what is a fair price? The watch was serviced by Rolex for $960 in August 2009. Bracelet has been scratched up since then but should be easy to bring back to new condition. It is SS/ White Dial (116520) Anything else I should know/ look for before buying? Thank you all! |

An 116520 Daytona would have a 78490 bracelet and clasp,,

thanks for the information. Price?
Thanks, I appreciate the help.
Also based on my research the bracelet should have 13 links- the caseback is flat in comparison to the Submariner 16610, and the movement should be the 4130. What's a fair market value? Again, while the watch was serviced just four months ago for almost $1000 the owner wore it regularly and I will need to have the bracelet refinished or polished. I think I can have this done for about $100 if I'm correct. The service warranty from Rolex is included (1 year) as is the original box an warranty papers. |

I DO NOT want to curb your enthusiasm, but just wanted to throw in here that I am pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong Larry) that is the older-new style 116520 Daytona, i.e. it has the older skinny hands and no "Rolex" imprint on the inner dial. If that doesn't matter to you then get the watch and I sincerely congratulate you, just wanted to point out that if you were interested in the newest-looking model talk to TempoKing or DavidSW or several others here on the forum, I am pretty sure for the same money you could get a later (current) edition.
Again, don't want to put a damper on your possible purchase, they're great watches and I wish you the best! |

hand size/ price
when did the Daytona hands change to the larger size? Does anyone have insight on the current fair market value of a freshly serviced Daytona w/ box & papers?
Thank you! |

I believe the 'fat hands' were introduced halfway through the F series

ok thanks again-- the hands don't make much of a difference for me.
I'm just trying to figure out how much to pay for it. Is a full Daytona service always about $950 from Rolex? I definitely like the fact that 8 mos. remain on the Rolex Warranty. |

It is good that is hard to read.. that way I look more at the watch.. 5 out of 10 times I just look at the watch without worrying about the hour..

I don't know exactly how much a 2001 11620 is worth. However my understanding is it's not much much less than a brand new one. Unlike other models, the SS Daytona holds great value. But I can tell you I wouldn't pay more than $7000 myself. For $8500 you could get a 2007-2008. I prefer a newer model and the new clasp is a big improvement for me.

A Daytona service starts at ~750, so 950 is not out of the question..

I think $8500 is a little high personally. I've seen more than one minty D series go for this amount.

8,500 for a 2001 model is high for me..I'll rather buy a later series like d or z unserviced and pay a little more..Just my 2 cents...pay a thousand more and you can even get an m series like new thats 2008 model.. 7 years difference.. or for z series maybe you just need to pay 500 more..And think it's 6-7 years newer.the clasp is newer and the updated one plus it has the rolex rolex rehaut and serial no.is viewable inside the s.crystal...

In my experience, $8K is an equitable price for both parties.

I'd be in the $7500 - $7800 price range for that model/age.

Thank you all for your insight- I don't know what I would do without TRF! Here's a quick photo booth shot with the new Daytona on! Sorry I couldn't help but smile...

If I am correct, a 2001 Daytona is a very rare piece that I think should cost more, maybe even USD 10.000+. The 2001 is the last year with the Zenit movement, and the only year also with SEL. Very few of these were made and will be a great collectors item. If it is the watch I think it is (Zenit movement and SEL) I would buy it in a second for USD 8.500. From the picture, it looks exactly like that as the subdials look black and there seems to be SEL's.

You are probably right that it was 2000 and not 2001. In that case, the prices quoted by the other members are more accurate.
