Ceramic did NOT even last a year
Hey I am back what do you know. 6 month break although I gave in a few months back and posted under Mulder for a few days.
Long story for ya’ll so I will try to make it short. I am sure some have seen my posts and seen how I use my watch for everything. Well Christmas Morning my 13 year niece and her 18 year old brother were fighting at the house and I intervened as my niece was swinging a necklace of keys and key chains and the GMT took the brunt of it. I was surprised to find that there was no damage as she hit it pretty hard. I did not notice this for a few days and man my ceramic did not even last a year. Not too bad to go out and spend who knows how much so I will wait for it to get a little more beat up. Do you guys think there is any way to turn this in under warrantee with a little white lie of not sure what happened to it? Now i think this is when the old metal inserts would have held up a little better??? Oh well what do you do I guess next time i will let him kick her butt... Postiff |

Bummer...Search the old posts, I do not think a new bezel is very expensive.

Man that sucks! I find it odd that there is no damage to the crystal when the chunk is missing right next to it on the bezel.
There must have been some sort of fault in the bezel or something. Please let us know how the replacement process works out for you! Sorry that happened! |

I would take the time to write to Rolex and send your watch in for warranty repair. This certainly doesn't look good for their reputation- especially based on the claims of the durability of the ceramic bezel and it's scratch resistant property. Perhaps this will be interpreted as a manufacturer's defect and be replaced at no cost. Just being optimistic for you! It's worth a shot before spending $500+ Good luck.

That impact probably would have left a good sized ding in a metal insert. I don't see the issue here... smack something against the ceramic hard enough and sure it will be damaged, I'm only surprised it didn't shatter or crack all the way through for that matter.

Ceramic did NOT even last a year .
Well Danny, If you had just smacked it with a hammer on the first day you would have found out about one shortcoming of this material right then. It is only a piece of ceramic and if you read any of the reports about this material you will find out that it is highly scratch resistant but B-r-i-t-t-l-e. No need to tell lies, take it to Rolex and just show them the damage. IMO That is all you are obliged to do.

It took me a few minutes to see the damage, but now that I see it I understand the concern.
It seems to me the impact as described should not have done this type of damage, and especially in the location and manner of the damage. I would tell Rolex the truth of the matter, and I would expect Rolex to make it right. If Rolex chalked it up to abuse, then I'd consider it an honorable scar, and I'd just live with it until I got ready for a major service, and then I'd replace it. |
