OK you asked for it

Here's a few pics I took during my absence.

A red avadavat. (These are escaped cage birds that have established themselves)

A yellow crowned bishop (Another escapee that's established)

A very wet stonechat

A pair of Indian silverbills

Ringed plover, the black stuff is chicken poo!!

Little stint in more chicken poo!!

A very stern looking grey francolin

Adrian, you should use your red-eye eliminator on that first pic.

Great shots, as always.

Adrian,
Love that red bird the best, followed by your Francolin. Wear did you take the shots, Saudi or UK?

These were all taken at Badaan farm, Bahrain. The sheik who owns the place lets us roam free inside, he's very good.

Just did a quick Google and the scientific name is the same amandava amandava. I wonder if they named it after Amanda?

If I remember they were quite delicate liked a bit of heat, and females were quite drab compared to the brightly coloured males.Expect today if English bred they would be a lot more hardy.Going back now 20 years ago they were quite expencive to buy,but then the most popular of all the waxbills.

Perhaps they didn't name them after Amanda then.

This photo is not in the league of yours, but he's an interesting little creature -- a Florida scrub jay. They are quite endangered. Very friendly. You put out your arm and they will perch on your hand. Right after I shot this he landed on my hand. Of course, since I had the camera, I couldn't get the shot.

That's a pretty good picture. It not surprising they are rare if they are not afraid of humans, nice looking bird all the same.
