Difference in width of lugs between crown and opposite side?
Question prompted by a couple of responses to my post in the "watch out" section yesterday. . .Are the lugs on the crown side of vintage GMTs, specifically ref. 16750 models, designed to be narrower than those on the opposite side? I noticed this yesterday on my watch, and initially thought it was the product of some fairly agressive polishing or repair work. Some folks have indicated the crown side lugs are actually narrower in width than those on the opposite side. Is that true?
Here is my watch. The width of the top flat area of the 4:00 lug is .4-.5mm narrower than the 8:00 lug. Here for comparison is another 16750 with similar lugs. |

Thanks for the heads up.
On the watch you've picture, the 0.5 mm difference is indeed noticeable to the naked eye. I'm wearing my TT GMT-IIC now even as I type this, and I cannot see any difference..........unless, of course, the difference is in microns. JJ

The contour into the case is slightly different on each side although the lugs are the same up to the point where they touch the case at the inside..
This shows the tiny amount of extra lug width on the backside..

This is a fact that we have known for a long time.
If you are in doubt, just measure it for yourself.

I just measure my 16613 with a micrometer and it is identical - I still think that the OP's watch looks like the 4 o clock lug was over ground and now 'curved' at the tip. I must be due for new glasses.

my TT Daytona (less than a year old and new when i got it) has both lugs thinner on the right hand side but i just think its because of the shape of the case to allow for the pushers.
