Probably a serial stamp used to track the watch within an organization.. for example, an issue watch in the military..

Does it have the same serial number engraved on the case, between the lugs?

Could it be that someone wanted to make sure that the caseback belonged to the correct case (watch)?

Best,

A

Never thought about case number match but yes it's the same number, so thats it. Strange that someone would do that if personnel item.

Probably it was used to more easily identify the watch since you can't see the serial number when the bracelet is on. So IMO, the watch was issued to someone.

dial images

Hi I hope I've done the right thing when buying this watch, it's always a worry listing here as you are all experts. I bought after reading and viewing other images, I'm also a military watch collector of some years and a more active member on other forums. The dial is military style with 600-200 with elongated E's, also shows original lume colour on some edges of hour markers. The hands gave me great concern as they looked newer? but a watch mate said that their has been many discusions on this subject and they age and colour diffrently from the dial lume? The movement is a 1520 and case date 1st qrt 65

Well here goes........wish me luck

Hi Viktoria,

Are you saying that the serial no. is 1.4M? I may be way off the mark here but I would have thought it should be a meters first (gilt?) dial.

Do you know if this a replacement dial?
