50 year history of the deepest dive @ Rolex Store South Coast Plaza SoCal

Hi All

Today was the event over at the Rolex Store @ South Coast Plaza in Southern California, to commemorate history's deepest dive. The guest of honor, Captain Don Walsh was available for conversation and autographs and the COO of Rolex corporate America was there to show off his vintage divers collection which includes a lot of vintage subs and sea dwellers. Unfortunately i could not be there for the unveiling of the DeepSea special but i am planning on returning to the store in about an hour to take pictures of the original DeepSea.

On with the pictures, and thank you to Baron & Leeds and Rolex for hosting this awesome event!!!!

When entering you are greeted by banners and a blown up story regarding the historic dive with the bathyscaphe Trieste

and the one that i didnt get a chance to see but will soon enough...

and the inside of the event

Captain Don Walsh himself signing autographs, i didnt get to chat it up as much as i would like because there was a line but it was truely an honor to see him in person, along with his vintage GMT :)

Mr. Walsh signing my catalog

And here is a picture with me and Mr. Walsh

They let you take those pictures? When I was in Rolex USA and asked if I could take a picture they told me absolutely not. Go figure.

It must be a marketing thing.

WOW!! Thanks, Brian......what a pictorial show!!

And just look at the prices on some of those oldies!!

Hundred grand on the 6200 from 1953......betcha that one would have cost around 100 bucks back then. What an investment!!

If everyone keep theirs along with box and papers they would not be collectible; that is why I never throw any thing out.

P.S. Is this a traveling exhibit or a one time thing?

thanks for the compliments guys, i knew for sure a bunch of TRF guys were there but sadly i was a little embarrassed to just come on up and ask "you post on TRF?" haha would have been cool if all the socalers caravaned up and then grabbed lunch or something later.

sad part is i got to see them pack away the deepsea special when i went back again, i forgot my camera this time, so unfortunately no pictures from me of the special but they are around the other threads.

i did get a copy of the watch times though in the display case

Great pictures........

of the entire event, and especially the vintage selection. I have never heard of a 1666 !! Very cool. Would love to know the story of why or what progession of sea dweller evolution led to that one.

Cheers,
